Over 4 years almost $800 million will be invested in Queensland state schools. This additional funding is being provided to every state, territory and schooling sector by the Federal Government under its Students First - A fairer funding agreement for schools initiative. All 1233 state and Independent Public Schools will receive a share of the funding and enter into an agreement that commits them to guarantee that every student will either: achieve the National Minimum Standard for literacy and numeracy for their year level or have an evidence-based plan, developed by the school, in place to address their specific learning difficulties. All schools will receive their current level of funding plus a share of the $131 million, so every school will be better off. Under the guarantee, state primary schools will receive an additional $99 million with a focus on the early years. On average, schools will receive an extra $508 per student in Prep to Year 2. The extra investment in the early years will achieve the best long-term results, by tackling poor literacy and numeracy before it's too late. Jimbour is expected to receive approximately $8, 500 in additional funding to improve student performance. The Great Results Guarantee will be an agreement between the principal and the department. Jimbour SS will develop an agreement that outlines how the funds will be used for intervention and support strategies and this will be published on the school website by February 28. Big thankyou goes out to our local community and in particular the members of the Jimbour Sport and Recreational Club. Last year’s Bike Ride raised a little over $10 000 with the P&C receiving $5000, Care Flight $1 500 and the remainder going to the Sport and Rec club. Without the support of the Sport and Rec this much needed fund raiser would not go ahead and their continued support is much appreciated. 2014 will see the P&C taking on a much bigger organisational role and we will need all hands on deck come September. Thanks to Gemma and the P&C volunteers for once again providing tuckshop on a Thursday. Please help support our tuckshop volunteers by having your orders in by no later than Wednesday morning. The new Dresses have arrived at a cost of $40 each for sizes 4 – 8 & $45 for size 10 and larger. Sizes 12 and larger will be ordered as a needs basis. The dress is an optional part of the uniform and does not replace the formal uniform. Please contact Gemma or the office on a Thursday/Friday for uniform sales. Beach Camp: The Tallebudgera Senior Beach Camp is on in October for all 5,6 and 7 students. At last month’s P&C it was agreed that the P&C will contribute 1/3 rd of the cost, Parents will be billed for 1/3rd of the cost and we are hoping that the students themselves can fundraise the remaining 1/3rd. The cost of the 2012 camp was $ 315. 75 per student. Long Term absences: If your child is going to be away for 10 days or more you need to speak to myself and apply for an exemption from Compulsory Schooling.
