BRP Collection – Frequently Asked Questions

BRP Collection – Frequently Asked Questions
1. What should I do if I cannot collect my BRP within 10 days of my arrival in the UK?
You must collect your BRP within 10 days of your arrival in the UK. Failure to do this may
result in a penalty or your leave being cancelled.
2. What do I need to bring with me to collect my BRP?
You will need to bring your current passport or travel document with your vignette when
you collect your BRP. If you can bring your decision letter with you as well, this will make the
process of finding your BRP quicker and easier.
3. What should I do if I lose any of the evidence I need to collect my BRP?
Send an email to [email protected]. If you have lost your decision letter
and do not know where you are supposed to collect your BRP from, include the following
details in your email:




Your full name, date of birth and nationality
Your passport number
A phone number you can be contacted on

If you have lost your passport or travel document, include the above details in your email
along with:

4. How do I know whether or not my BRP has arrived to collect?
If you asked for your BRP to be sent to Coventry University to collect, you can check the
website http://www.coventry.ac.uk/international-students-hub/new-students/coming-tothe-uk/your-visa/tier-4-visa/biometric-residence-permit/: to see whether or not it is
available for you to collect. If you have asked for your BRP to be sent to the local Post Office,
you will need to go in person to ask for your card. If it has not arrived within 10 days, please
see the question below.
5. My BRP has not arrived. What should I do?
If you went to collect your BRP and it was not there, send an email to

The collection point you tried to collect your BRP from
If you applied for your BRP from within the UK, include the above details but give your
delivery address instead of the BRP collection point.
6. Can I get a friend to pick up my BRP for me?
Not usually. You may only nominate someone else to collect your BRP if you have a serious
illness or disability which prevents you from being able to collect it yourself or if you are
under 18. These applicants should follow the nomination procedure below.
7. I am under 18 years of age; how do I collect my BRP?
Before you collect your BRP you must meet with an International Student Adviser and our
Compliance Team. You should have received an e-mail explaining this. If not, please come to
the Student Centre for this appointment before you enrol. Then, if your BRP has been
delivered to the Student Centre you will be able to collect it. If it has been delivered
elsewhere, you will need to send an email to [email protected],
explaining that you are nominating someone to collect your BRP on your behalf. In this email
you must include:





Your full name, date of birth and nationality
Your passport number
Your vignette reference number (located in red in the top right-hand corner of your
visa)
A contact telephone number
Why you cannot collect the BRP yourself
You will also need to include the following details about the person you have chosen to
collect the BRP:





Full name, date of birth and nationality
Email address
The type of document they will use to prove their identity
The reference number of their proof of identity document
The expiry date of their proof of identity document
Your nominee can prove their identity with a passport, a UK-issued photo-card driving
licence (UK citizens only), a European identity card (European citizens only), or their own UKissued BRP. If you do not have a suitable nominee in the UK you can ask at the Student
Centre for an International Student Adviser to act for you.
8. Can I collect the BRPs of my dependants on their behalf?
Yes. If you are part of a family group, which has travelled to the UK together, all the BRPs
belonging to that family can be collected together. The person collecting them does not
need to be the main applicant, but must be over 18 years of age and be part of the family
group (applicant or dependant). They must present the travel documents and vignettes of
everyone whose BRP they wish to collect.
9. I have arranged for my BRP to be delivered to a Post Office. Can I change this so that I
can pick it up from the Student Centre?
No.
10. I have arranged for my BRP to be delivered to a Post Office. Can I change this to pick it
up from a different Post Office branch?
Yes. Firstly, make sure that the branch you intend to collect your BRP from offers this
service, using www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder. If the service is available, contact the
branch so that they can organise the change. You will need to tell them which branch you
were originally supposed to collect your BRP from. You will need to pay a fee for each BRP
you wish to collect from a different branch.
11. I don’t know which Post Office branch to collect my BRP from. What should I do?
This information will be in your decision letter. If you have lost your decision letter, send an
