The Department of Pediatrics and Section of Infectious Diseases at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado invite you to …… Mimi Glodé Say Happy Retirement to Mimi Glodé! Mimi Glodé was born in Omaha, Nebraska (as Mary Patricia Rose) and attended the University of Nebraska for 3 years before being accepted to medical school at Washington University. She met her husband Mike in college and they married during their second year of medical school. Following medical school, Mimi did 2 years of Pediatric Residency Training at Children’s Hospital in Dallas, Texas and then completed a Post‐ doctoral Fellowship at NIH working on encapsulated bacteria. Her next training occurred in Boston where she completed a 2 year fellowship in Pediatric and Adult Infectious Disease at Boston Children’s Hospital and Beth Israel Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Center. Her first “real” job was at Children’s Hospital in Denver Colorado and she has been a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics since that fateful day in July 1978! During her career, Mimi was fortunate to be involved in the development and testing of the Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine as well as other pediatric vaccines. She has served on a number of advisory committees over her career including the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the “Red Book” Committee of the AAP, the National Vaccine Advisory Committee and FDA Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Biologicals. Mimi also served as the Pediatric Residency Director for 11 years (33 Chiefs and over 200 residents!) from 1992‐2003 and served as Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Pediatrics. She has been the Section Head for Pediatric ID since 2002. She has continued her interest in vaccine preventable diseases, but she is a national/international expert on Kawasaki Disease, a disease she first encountered as a senior medical student before it was described in the United States. Mimi has enjoyed all aspects of her career in academic medicine and she has loved working at Children’s Hospital and living in Colorado. Mimi and Mike have 3 children and 3 grandchildren who they love deeply (along with their son‐ in‐law and daughter‐in‐law). Retirement will include “getting organized”, travel, time with family, and regular visits to CHCO.
