HORNS DROVE PRE-SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR SPRING TERM 2017 SECOND HALF Dear Parents These next six weeks will see us through to our Easter break in April and over these next coming weeks we will be looking at numbers. As you will see when you read through there will be requests of items from parents and carers. PLEASE REMEMBER THE PARENTS HELPER ROTA, ALL PARENTS ARE WELCOME AND GRANDPARENTS TOO! COME AND WATCH YOUR CHILDREN PLAY. We are now collecting the Sainsburys active kids vouchers. There is a collection box in our entrance hall for them. We will be holding a Mothers Day afternoon tea party on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd March, invites to come home soon! Easter service will be at St John’s church on Monday 3rd April at 9.30am. Please see the separate letter to be sent out shortly for the full details. THE THEME FOR THIS TERM IS “NUMBERS Week 1 (27TH Feb) NUMBER HUNT We will be….Going on a number detecting walk, finding different and matching numbers from a number display around the pre-school. Matching numbers of objects to the right number and number recognition. Drawing and cutting out numbers to colour in, also asking the children how old they are and to make that number. Sing number rhymes songs Key vocabulary: next to, beside, in front, behind, odd, even. Parents Don’t forget its World Book day on Thursday 2nd March, children to come dressed as their favourite book character on the day. HORNS DROVE PRE-SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR SPRING TERM 2017 SECOND HALF Week 2 (6th March) MUSICAL NUMBERS. This week we are going to have lots of singing, dancing and clapping to musical and favourite nursey rhymes and acting out some of our favourites like ‘Five speckled frogs’. We will be making our very own musical instruments too. Parent request-Small bottles with lids, kitchen roll and pringle tubes please Week 3 (13th March) NUMBERS ARE EVERYWHERE Lots of things this week! We will be making an age and height chart with the children. Looking at shoe sizes, number mobiles, counting and threading pasta shapes, playing games with the numbered bean bags, clapping number songs, digging for numbers, making a tape measure and asking the children about numbers around them on Houses, buses and everywhere around us. The children will be posting a Postcard home, writing on the house number, a little note and putting on the stamp. Key vocabulary: height, number games, size, bean bags, number puzzle, iPad. Parent request- can all the children please bring in a 2nd class stamp in a sealed envelope with their name on it please. We will also need a few parent helpers please on Wednesday 15th March to help us walk the children to the post box. Week 4 (20th March) ARTY NUMBERS Another busy week! With a Selection of resources like beads, feathers, shiny sequins, bendy straws we will be encouraging the children to use them independently to create a creature from the number planet. And as it is art week we will be Blow painting on arty numbers, walking bare feet to make a number snake on the floor ,play dough numbers, painting with numbers, activities sheets with numbers, action rhymes, puppets with numbers, stories with numbers, dice games using numbers, tray game using numbers, Key vocabulary: numbers, large, sacks, painting, musical piano. HORNS DROVE PRE-SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR SPRING TERM 2017 SECOND HALF Week 5 (27TH March) SHOPPING WITH NUMBERS Its shopping time, turning Home corner into a shop, pricing up toys with numbers on them, playing Memory games, I went shopping and I brought a ………. Using more or less with money in the tills, making five current buns with numbers on, using numbers outside and our new spider numbers game. Making a shopping list and playing games which relate to number order. Key vocabulary: shopping list, spider game, five current buns, treasure chest Week 6 (3rd April) COOKING WITH NUMBERS We will be cooking from different Countries! Using our more or less words, numbers cutters, weighing, reading the numbers on the scales and making our own numbers biscuits. The children will be weighing out the ingredients and counting out how many cake cases they will need to make some delicious fairy cakes. Outside we will have the new water/sand trays placing numbers in the water to find. Key vocabulary: bread/baking, biscuits, weighting, scales, fairy cakes Parents would you like to come in and show us something that you all like to eat? REMINDER PLEASE:SNACKS: not to send in chocolate, sweets and crisps or too much for your child’s snack. We encourage healthy eating at pre-school. Please be aware that we have children with nut allergies so we ask that you bear this in mind when sending in snacks. Can snack boxes and lunch bags have your child’s name on them please? CLOTHING: Please ensure that your child has weather appropriate clothing, a warm outdoor coat, gloves and hat as we try to encourage outdoor play throughout the year. Please make sure that your child’s name is inside all of their clothing. HORNS DROVE PRE-SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR SPRING TERM 2017 SECOND HALF SUPERVISION A reminder to all parents and carers that the children must be supervised whilst they play outside in the mornings prior to the start of preschool, which starts at 9.00am. Please do not leave your children unattended or allow them on the climbing frame at this time. SICKNESS Can you please let us know if your child is unwell and will not be attending preschool with a quick telephone call thank you. We welcome all donations but above all we welcome your time, please do come in and share something with the children. AND FINALLY Are you handy or do you know a person who is? We are looking for someone, that can carry out small DIY and repair jobs for us on an ad hoc basis. Please see Rosemary or Karen if interested or if you know of any local tradesmen that you can recommend. Thank you.
