LOAD214-Day-25

[Day 25 Transcript]
You probably think you have a handle on this LOAD thing. After all, it is LOAD214
Day number 25 – 25th day out of 28. You probably think, “No problem.” Well,
today I’m going to give you a challenge. Are you ready? It’s going to jolt you out of
your complacency.
Myth or reality: when scrapbooking you have to plan your page out
beforehand.
I’m excited about today, because I want you to create a page where you’re
working like I do for Scrapbook Improv, you don’t know what’s coming at you
next. When you do this it makes you question everything. You can’t fall into your
normal habits and routines, because those habits and routines are taken away.
What I’ve done is created a really cute little template for a die, and on each side
of this die is a part of your scrapbook page. What I want you to do is print out the
template, cut it out, make your own little die, it will be a little cube. You’re going
to roll it and go in the order that your die says.

Sound crazy? It is crazy. But it’s also a lot of fun. I love Scrapbook Improv because
of this very reason, I never know what’s coming at me next. It keeps me on my
toes, it keeps me present with the process, and 99 times out of 100 I end up with
a layout that is infused with fun and creativity.
Look at the one I did today, here it is. This is so far outside my normal zone that I
can’t even begin to tell you.
When I rolled my die I came up with story first, so I had to decide what story I
wanted to capture. I was thinking I wanted to tell the story of the time that Cali
did this funny thing, so that’s what the page was about.
Then I rolled and I got design. I went to Pinterest and found some designs that I
had pinned, and I pulled up this particular design. This layout is by Ebony
Vanderstar, and I believe she’s an Australian scrapbooker.
There’s a link below this video to where the original layout was grabbed from. I
actually found it on Pinterest, but this is where it was pinned from originally so
you can track her down.
You can see it’s very different from my normal style. I knew I was going to have to
stretch doing that. I thought that was only fair, since I’m pretty used to mixing
things up like I do in Scrapbook Improv. The idea that I was stretching myself by
using a design that was very different from something I would normally do really
pushed me.
So I had the story, I had the design, and then I rolled Title. I came up with a title
based on the story I was telling. Then I went to photos. Then I went to paper and
started creating the background. Finally, I was lucky and got little stuff at the end.
It’s going to a bit of a challenge if you roll little stuff first, but maybe you don’t
add it to the page, maybe you just pull it out.
Make it work for you. I really stretched myself on this one and I love the result,
but make it work for you. Print out your little die and roll away. If you get the
same thing twice you can decide if you want to add more paper or if you just want
to roll again to get something you haven’t rolled before. But no cheating.

When you post your layout to Flickr, make sure you put down the order in which
you rolled your die. I think we’ll have fun with this and I’ll bet a lot of you will
decide to use this die again and again. It’s sort of a simple way to recreate the
spinner I use during Scrapbook Improv, which I still will do a tutorial on at some
point, but not today, today we’re going with the die.
The template is below this video. Have fun. I’ll be back tomorrow. Swing by and
see what Dani does, maybe she’ll even roll right on camera for you. Wouldn’t that
be fun? No pressure or anything, Dani. We’ll be back tomorrow.
