It was the perfect day for
a Beach Party…our theme
for Field Day 2007! Beautiful,
sunny skies and cool temperatures set the stage for a hugely
successful day. The 82-yearold tradition was filled with
tropical fun and the continued camaraderie of friends and
family. Field Day was held on
Thursday, April 19, and once
again brought the entire student body, faculty, parents and
grandparents together for a
fabulous day filled with friendly
rivalry between the Purple and
Gold teams, as well as a family
carnival with rides, games and
delicious food.
Competition started early this
year with the prekindergarten
through fifth grades participating in Purple vs. Gold races

We wouldn’t know how
much money we raised for
the school without Debbie
Hurwitz and Dana Oster and
a dedicated group of volunteers who spent most of the
day inside in the Field Day
Accounting Office tallying our
totals! Susie Green, with a
team of volunteers, draped the
tables and booths in purple
and gold to show our school
spirit, while Marilyn Phillips
and Liz Lockwood designed
creative centerpieces for the

with our Beach Party theme.
Carrie Fisher, Rachel Ribbeck
and Shanna Schanen did an
outstanding job organizing volunteers
for the games and rides at the carnival.
It was another incredible year for
Sidewalk Art, co-chaired by Amy
Story, Tany James and Tara Walker.
Grade level moms for Sidewalk Art
this year were: Prekindergarten – Amy
Story, Kindergarten – Courtnay Elias,
First Grade – Denise Moseley, Second
Grade – Debbie Greenbaum and Jill
Deutser, Third Grade – Ashley Clark,
Fourth Grade – Tany James, Fifth
Grade – Kelly Broesche and Sixth
Grade – Tara Walker. These moms
assembled adorable benches, bird baths
and planters with tiles hand-painted by
your children…always a favorite with
the parents! The Field Day Raffle was
a huge success as always. Chairs Kathy
Arcidiacono, Kelli Cravens, Dabney
Pierce and Leslie Sprague worked for
weeks before the event to find the
most sought after and fun items for the
Raffle. The Frozen Food Committee,
chaired by Janet Asarch, Susie Cone,
Around Campus: Field Day
Gina Lamme and Jill Rome, was busy
the month before Field Day making
home-cooked meals for Kinkaid families to take home and enjoy.
The food booths – Alumni Taco,
Falcon Grill, Hot Dogs, Pizza,
Sandwiches, Cakes & Cookies, Bread,
Snow Cones, Cotton Candy, Cold
Drinks, Dippin’ Dots and Yogurt &
Popcorn – were booming from lunch
through the dinner hour. A special
thanks to the many local businesses
that supported our food booths, including Rice Epicurean Markets, Coca Cola
Enterprises, Pizza Hut, Sheila Partin’s
Sweet Sourdough and Windsor Foods.
The Pick-a-Chop chairmen Pam
Fullenweider, Amy Greenwood, Alix
Nakfoor, Kelli Mize, Annette Stephens
and Kriste Sullivan did a great job
attracting students to their booth as
kids of all ages were lined up all day
trying to win the big prizes. General
Store, chaired by Madeline Masterson
and Kelly Montgomery, sold hundreds
and hundreds of confetti eggs, and the
Silly String arena was always buzzing with activity thanks to chairmen
Karen Finger and Ruth Gay.
A heartfelt thank you to all the booth
chairmen and volunteers for their hard
work, dedication and enthusiasm…. in
particular to Dina Ormiston, Chairman
2008, and Emily Bolin, Chairman
2009, who encouraged and supported
me throughout the planning and organization of the event – it truly was a
team effort! I also want to express my
sincere thanks to the Kinkaid community for your incredible support. It
is because of your generosity that we
raised record Field Day funds this year
and will be able to make significant
contributions to the Lower, Middle and
Upper Schools. The Field Day tradition
is still running strong and will continue
to do so – hopefully forever. It is this
spirit of tradition and togetherness that
makes Field Day so special and something that Kinkaid students and families look forward to each spring. Thank
you for a fun-filled and memorable
Field Day 2007.
“This year was our first year at Field Day,
and I was amazed by the scale and the
FUN of the event. It was so neat to see
Braxton ’19 march out onto the field with
his senior buddy, Sam, donning his new
Kinkaid baseball hat and his field day t-shirt
that went down to his knees. It struck me
that this was the beginning of a long, meaningful journey at Kinkaid, and that one day
he would be the older buddy walking a little
five year old out to his/her first field day.

“beach party” activities on Kinkaid’s campus. They raised a record amount of funds
to donate to the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools.
