Senior Communications Officer (Digital)

We have a proud thirty-year history but we have set out in a new direction. In
October of last year, we launched a major plan for change, along with a new website
and new branding.
As our digital lead in the organisation, you will be responsible for maintaining and
driving forward our new online presence across website, social media, emails and
publications. Reporting to the Director of News and Media, you will be NEF’s leader
– both internally and externally – for all aspects of digital communications, as well
as playing an integral role in the wider functions of a four-person communications
team.
The key elements of the Senior Communications Officer (Digital) role include:
Digital communications
You will be responsible for maintaining and improving NEF’s high-quality online
presence. That means managing and improving our website and associated digital
communications; leading on social media strategy and implementation; and
developing a successful email and fundraising strategy. You will also play a leading
role in the development of campaign strategies designed to maximise impact, widen
our support base and raise funds.
Brand, publications and design
You will be responsible for enforcing and maintaining the NEF brand across all
outputs. You will also play a leading role in overseeing NEF’s publications process,
ensuring quality, message discipline and brand consistency is maintained
throughout. And you will be NEF’s first port-of-call for digital design such as
infographics, animations and videos.
Other communications functions
As a key member of a four-person communications team, you will play a leading
role in the wider functions of the team including message development, press office,
proactive media strategy and news story development.
Your primary responsibilities






Working with the Director of News and Media, Senior Press Officer and
Communications Officer to develop and sustain a leading profile for the New
Economics Foundation’s work
Leading on developing and implementing an impact-driven content strategy
across all digital communications, particularly NEF’s website, social media
channels and e-mail
Developing and growing the New Economic Foundation’s supporter base,
working with the Director of News and Media, the Director of Policy and
Advocacy and the Head of Fundraising to maximise income opportunities
Enforcing a strong, consistent brand for the New Economics Foundation
Overseeing NEF’s publications process
Playing a leading role in delivering the communications team’s wider
functions, including press office and news story development

Demonstrable innovation and improvement in NEF’s digital communications
Strength and consistency of NEF branding across all outputs
Increase in fundraising from digital communications

Number and quality of media hits, and wider success of the communications
team
Knowledge and experience





Expert and up-to-date knowledge of digital communications including
website development and management, social media strategy and delivery,
and email/fundraising strategy
In-depth knowledge of UK broadcast, print and online news
Significant experience in a professional media environment or press office
Demonstrable brand and reputation management experience
Extensive network of contacts in the digital communications sector and
preferably the wider media/news sector
Skills






Proven ability to write clearly and concisely for a range of audiences
Proven experience managing websites using a range of content management
systems, especially Wordpress
Proven experience with Blue State Digital Tools or comparable campaigns
and e-mail platform
Proficient with Adobe Design software or similar
Previous experience in one or more of filming, audiovisual editing or
publications design
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript highly desirable
