1. UNATC's international European strategy
Founded in 1954, The National University of Theatre and Film “I.L.Caragiale” Bucharest kept its
original formula until today, being structured in two faculties: Theatre and Film. Acting as an
academic forum of excellence in education, artistic and scientific research, over the last years our
university had a major goal in achieving a higher level of internationalization so that the students, and
not only, can benefit form the best opportunities in their studies or teaching and working experience.
Our university developed national and international projects fulfilling the needs of its students and
core target public: festivals (”CineMAiubit” International Student Film Festival – organized annually
since 1996; The National Theatre Festival where UNATC is a partner, The International Theatre
Schools Festival etc.), workshops (The Minwa-za Theatre Company - Tokyo, Eric Trules On Improvisation etc.), conferences regarding the professional and artistic field with Robert Wilson,
Roman Polanski, Peter Greenaway etc. All these projects allowed for a revival of the role of the
university as a European and national academic important actor. Regarding the European inheritance
UNATC expresses its belonging to the European cultural space in its Strategic Plan.
In this framework, our major strategy for the years to come is to provide full education support by
studying and teaching mobilities for Romania’s integration in the European higher education and
artistic union, and for this UNATC will develop a strong and complex internationalization process.
The Erasmus programme is one of the most important instrument in this policy, both as goal and as
means, in helping our university to continue to achieve its objectives: strengthen the ties with similar
European universities in order to facilitate the student exchange mobility by offering students the
possibility to access full educational and artistic potential, updating the curricula, promoting
Romanian studies and artistic area, contribution in fields where our teaching staff are known for
their excellence in education, scientific and artistic research.
UNATC chooses its partners by similar artistic and theoretical directions and also by the expressed
proposals of its students and professors. Our university is working for an intense
internationalization development in which choosing the best partners can be the most important
step. Regarding this, we are always working to ally with the best theatre and film universities in EU
so our students and professors have the best mobility experiences and the most fruitful
academic collaborations to best use them in the future career. We started by signing cooperation
agreements with universities in our geographic area (Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria), because in
the beginning we wanted to strengthen a partnership with our neighbors, already being in contact
with them. The first outgoing student that we had were somehow close to home and yet in wellknown universities that we were already in contact with before and it was easier for them and for us
to start the process. In the future we intend to broaden the geographic area regarding our Erasmus
partners also in the west of Europe (Germany, France, England, etc.).
As in the first year of Erasmus programme we only had the Charter for Placements our objective
for the next academic years is to develop the study, teaching and staff mobilities also, based on our
Extended Erasmus Charter that we received in 2012. We already started to better update our curricula
in order for our university to be compatible with the best theatre and film European universities for
the study mobility. Our core target groups will be the first and second cycle and we are also
concentrating to start the teaching mobility, not neglecting the 3rd cycle - the doctoral studies. Many
of our academic staff are participating in international conferences and are visiting professors at
international universities. One of our major objectives is to develop this process with the help
of Erasmus programme.

Along with the beginning of the study mobilities another major objective is to continuous expand
the practice training of our students within the placements mobilities. As our university is one that
has focuses on artistic creation, the practice-based studies are the most important part. In this respect,
we will work on finding new organizations (theatres, film and photography studios etc.) to sign
agreements with.
2. UNATC's strategy for the organisation and implementation of international cooperation projects in
teaching and training in relation to projects implemented under the Erasmus + Programme.
UNATC is member of several international consortia, having as partners some of the best film and
theatre universities in Europe. We intend to enlarge our international cooperation in the future and
the Erasmus programme will be the main instrument to help us strengthen and develop double
degrees or other joint activities in order to achieve excellence and innovation in higher education.
One of our first priorities is to bring together our academic activities with universities and also
companies in the artistic field (theatres, film studios etc.) to increase our student’s connection with
the labor market. In this matter we continuously work to design a multidisciplinary curricula and
innovative courses, to improve our potential of being a valuable partner in any alliance.
3. The impact of our participation in the Erasmus Programme (in the modernization of our institution)
in terms of the policy objectives we intend to achieve.
Our university considers as core advantages of the Erasmus mobility: the adequacy of the Erasmus
support to the university’s strategy in terms of internationalization - student study exchange and
academic goals, wide and efficient access to European cooperation, awareness and preservation of
diversity, including language and cultural concerns, promoting access to the disadvantaged. The
continuum exchange of information in study mobility can increase the quality standards of artistic
education and creation, closely related to the teaching process.
UNATC incorporated all 5 priorities of the Modernization Agenda in its major objectives of
developing a strong national and international academic position. All available infrastructural,
financial, academic means are used to improve the participation rate of disadvantaged persons in the
learning process, for students and teachers also, in the desire of a wider social dimension of higher
education. Our university promotes non-discrimination trough all of its actions. In this sense no
gender discrimination is done, female and male students having a balanced proportion within the
faculties. Admission and learning process are free of any discrimination concerning nationality,
religion, sex and political alliances.
Developing education to meet the labor market is another direction in the strategic plan for
internationalization of UNATC. We are in the course of developing a better practice system for our
students by establishing partnerships with correlated domain organizations to facilitate our student’s
entrance in the labor market. Every semester, both bachelor and master degree students, have credits
that must be achieved by an internship activity, which the placement mobility is the most
important opportunity. This strategy is part of developing initiatives or tools to assess and promote
the employability of graduates.
Analyzing and tracking the main obstacles to mobility is a constant concern among every person
involved in the Erasmus programme, academic and non-academic staff. The Erasmus Office has the
permanent mission of supervising all the mobilities continuously counseling the students and
analyzing their feedback to better shape the future exchanges. All Erasmus activities will be widely
promoted through our website and other available media, events for incoming and future outgoing
students, brochures and posters etc. We are now implementing a new Erasmus section for our website

with the needed information for incoming students, selection criteria for outgoing students, details of
the host institution. All of our results within the Erasmus activities will be disseminated.
In the process of developing strategies to increase the autonomy level of the university, UNATC is
aiming to access the best funding possibilities for higher education. In the general strategy of the
UNATC internationalization we are trying and adapting to integrate in the best higher education
European Alliances.
