Autumn Newsletter 2016 - Moorhouse Primary School

Newsletter for Autumn 1
We have had a very enjoyable start to the academic year. All the new children have settled in well.
We have had many exciting learning opportunities that have enhanced our curriculum.
Our Webpages are updated regularly and we post pictures of the children engaging with different
aspects of the curriculum via our Twitter feed on the home pages of the website. Why not follow us

Thank you to all the families who have supported the pupils by attending our Star Assemblies, and
recent Reception Reading Meetings. It is important that we are partners in your child’s education.
Thanks also for the generous donations to the Harvest Festival, MacMillan Coffee Mornings (£408)
and Stand up for Cancer (£100).
The staff have been trained on outdoor learning and all our children loved the climbing wall – we
hope to have it back next year.
Year 1
Year one have loved their Pirate Topic – more photos coming soon.
Year 2
Have been learning about Victorians, including how Victorian Children played. Thank you
Touchstones Museum for lending us the hoops, Yoyo’s and cup and ball games. The children were
very well behaved for the very strict Miss Pegg and Mrs Brown.
Year
Year 3
This half term we have really enjoyed our Viking topic. We have learned about; how the Vikings
invaded Britain, long boats, long houses, daily life and much more. We designed and painted our
own Viking shields. As part of our English lessons we have read ‘How to Train your Dragon’ by
Cressida Cowell. The children wrote their own instructions on how to train a dragon and their own
dragon adventure stories.
We really enjoyed the climbing wall
this half term too. All of the children
tried really hard and made sure that
they kept each other safe.
Year 4
Year 4 have been working together to find fantastic adjectives for their Fantastic Mr Fox character
descriptions.
Year 5
Have done their Bikeability Training – learning to ride safely. Well done Y5 who have received
badges and certificates.
Freddie fit visited school for 2 days and will be back next half term to check on our progress. He has
trained fitness leaders to run sessions at lunchtimes. Thank you to all our new Freddie Fit Leaders
from Year 5 and Year 6.
Year 6
Year 6 have also been learning to keep safe at Crucial Crew. The event is run by joint Emergency
Services teaching young people to keep safe in different situations. This included water safety, road
safety, railway / tram safety and Digital safety.
Have a happy and safe half term. See you back on the 31st October 2016
