Designed as a twosemester course for any high school student who
is pursuing a mathematics credit for high school.
This is a cornerstone class, which will transition
your student from behaving as an adolescent into
thinking and responding as an adult when handling
finances.

Bridge the gap between just learning
mathematical procedures and using them
in everyday situations with the practical
exercises of Consumer Mathematics. This
textbook covers concepts such as buying,
insuring, and maintaining a car; social
security tax; creating and balancing a
budget; renting a home; buying food and
clothing; tax forms; and affording leisure
time. These principles will give your child
sound, Biblical views for managing their
own money. Model problems and practice
exercises to help students understand the
value of money and how to use it wisely.
Students will practice finding percentages,
using formulas, completing ratios,
converting fractions to decimals, and many
other mathematical skills.
Foundations for Personal Finance – High
School Edition
This Christian based video series will change
a path to win with money. Students will change
the way they look at money forever. They will
become empowered, equipped and entertained
while building confidence in their own financial
decision-making.
Instructor: Dawn Thompson
Currently:
Dawn Thompson is a private academic and music
tutor with over 50 students whom sees on a weekly
basis in their homes. She and her husband are the
owners of Thompson Tutoring and Edge Water
Music Therapy. Dawn develops new educational
opportunities for students in the Kalamazoo area.
She also serves on board of the Autism Society for
Kalamazoo.
Previously:
Dawn has had experience as a school principal
and executive director of a trade school for 6 years,
serving over 50 educators and 500 students. In
addition, she has been a classroom teacher for 10
years, a reading specialist, a grant reviewer for the
Michigan Dept. of Education, a grant writer, and a
curriculum developer.
Spiritual Life:
Dawn has been active in her church as a Youth
Leader (Sr. High), Sunday School (PreK-12),
Enrichment Teacher (PreK-4), Infant Care
Provider, Choir Director and Church Organist.
