All-Star Players Selection Process/Eligibility

2016 Franklin Youth Baseball
Summer All-Star Information
May 11, 2016
Greetings! I hope all players, parents and coaches are having a great season so far.
As in previous years, Franklin Youth Baseball Organization (FYBO) will be sponsoring
all-star (traveling teams) to compete against other organizations at the end of the
regular season. Please read the following information to understand the program and
responsibilities of the participating players and parents.
Franklin has a strong reputation in the youth baseball community for fielding
competitive teams that are respectful of the competition and to the game of baseball.
We are very proud to say that in our first year being affiliated with Cal Ripken, Franklin
saw 3 teams win their district championship, 2 teams were state finalists and 1 team
finished 3rd for all of New England while several other teams won, or were finalists in
the Hockomock or Sizzler League championships. More importantly, Franklin received
several unsolicited messages from various tournament officials who went out of their
way to praise the way Franklin players, coaches and parents conducted themselves on
and off the field. As an organization, we would like to see these types of comments
continue to come our way, and will expect no less from this year’s all-star players,
coaches and parents.
All-Star Players Selection Process/Eligibility
Each year FYBO sponsors teams to participate in various summer leagues, tournaments
and more recently, the Cal Ripken tournaments. The number of teams for each age
group is determined by an All-Star committee, comprised of several board members,
including the Director and Assistant Director of Baseball. Typically FYBO will field 3
teams in the 9, 10, 11, and 12 year old age groups. For the big diamond, there are
typically 1 or 2 teams of 13 year old players and 1 or 2 teams of a combination of 14
and 15 year olds.
All registered FYBO players in the Single A to Babe Ruth (Big Diamond) leagues are
eligible to be selected to an all-star team, as long as they have played in at least 60%
of their spring season games as of 5/20. Players who do not attain league criteria and
who are interested in being considered for an all-star team must receive a waiver from
Rob Carlow, the Director of Baseball. Unfortunately, there are no all-star teams for the
younger (Bantam and Rookie) age groups.
All-star team placement is based on 2 factors: Spring season performance and tryout
performance. Spring season performance is based on the regular season coach’s direct
feedback that is openly discussed with the all-star committee at a live meeting.
The second factor, tryouts are held to allow interested players the opportunity to
demonstrate overall skill level. Independent evaluators (who have no children in the
age group they are evaluating) are in place to rate all of the attending players in all
major areas including throwing accuracy, arm strength, fielding, hitting, base running
and overall athletic ability.
Interested players must register for tryouts on or before Wed May, 18th by
registering on-line at www.franklinyouthbaseball.com. There is no fee to
tryout; however there is a fee to participate if your son/daughter is
selected to a team.
Please be mindful that a player’s placement on a previous season’s team in no way
guarantees a spot for that player on a team this year. FYBO expects that there will be
turnover every year as players develop and mature at different rates.
Please also be aware that FYBO offers other summer baseball opportunities for
those players who are not placed on an all-star team or are not interested in
trying out. More information about these opportunities will be provided in the
near future.
Tryouts
Any player interested in being considered for an all-star team is required to attend
tryouts. However, any interested player who cannot tryout for medical or other
reasons that are deemed acceptable by the Director of Baseball may still be considered
eligible. Please bring those reasons to our attention as soon as possible.
