Shortlands Crime Record 16/03/16

Shortlands Crime Record 16/03/16- 31/03/16
The latest crime update is shown below.
With regards to the two attempted burglaries on Monday, I have put a 'bid' in for the newly
formed tasking teams resulting in a unit or two being posted on some late shifts in Shortlands.
Hopefully this will help crime figures decrease, and potentially catch the suspects.
Regards

Fraud-: 1. 16/03/16 1000- 1200 Hours. Tall Elms Close. Elderly female conned into handing
over her HSBC Bank card along with John Lewis and Marks & Spencer credit cards to courier
following phone call from male claiming to be from HSBC. Fortunately Marks & Spencer
noticed some suspicious activity and contacted victim. Reporting officers cancelled all three
cards preventing any fraudulent transactions being carried out. A very nasty crime targeting
a vulnerable person.
2. 23/03/16 0945- 1038 Hours. Queen Anne Avenue. Victim tricked into handing bank cards
to courier following telephone call from a male and female claiming to be from Barclaycard
Mastercard. £3500 stolen from victim’s bank account. Remember bank and credit card
companies would never send couriers to collect your cards or ask for details on how to access
your account.
Attempted Burglary Dwelling-: 1. 16/03/16 1000- 2030 Hours. Whitecroft Way. Suspect
smashed a pane of glass in living room window but were not able to gain access. May have
climbed on to green electrical junction box in Hayes Way which was next to victim’s side fence
in order to get over fence.
Burglary Dwelling-: 1. 16/03/16 1430- 2005 Hours. Hayes Lane. Suspects smashed glass in
rear door and reached in forcing handle to gain access to kitchen. Appears to have been
scared off when burglar alarm went off. No items stolen and no sign of intruder in any room
other than kitchen. Shows that having a burglar alarm works.
2. 21/03/16 1100- 1900 Hours. Wickham Way. Suspects smashed glass in rear doors to enter
property. Untidy search of bedrooms carried out. No items stolen. Burglars may have been
distracted by occupants returning home.
3. 20/03/16 0830 Hours- 22/03/16 1930 Hours. Shortlands Road. Front door found
open. No signs of forced entry. Two laptops stolen.
4. 23/03/16 0900 Hours- 30/03/16 2030 Hours. Kingswood Road. Glass in side door
smashed. Untidy search of premises carried out. Nothing taken.
Theft from Motor Vehicle-: 1. 22/03/16 1145- 1300 Hours. Elwill Way. Lock broken on
sliding side door. Several tools, bank cards and bag of toiletries stolen.
2. 31/03/16 1200-1400 Hours. Elwill Way. BT Engineer was working nearby and left rear door
to van open. Unknown suspects took a power drill from the van.
Theft Other-: 1. 23/03/16 1715 Hours. Wickham Way. Money & mobile phone taken from
locker at sports club after victim had left it open while he had a shower.
Attempted Burglary Non Dwelling-: 1. 29/03/16 2100- 2120 Hours. Shortlands
Road. Suspects attempted to open garage door by forcing it from the bottom. Caused
damage but did not gain entry.
2. 29/03/16 2208- 2212 Hours. Winchester Road. Suspects attempted to open garage door
by breaking lock then trying to force door with crowbar. Damage caused but did not gain
entry.
Both offences 1 & 2 may well have been committed by the same group. Both crime reports
stated that a group of four males were seen by witnesses. Unfortunately they ran off before
detailed descriptions could be obtained and prior to police arrival.
