April 14, 2013 (Older – 3rd grade & up) Bonus Scripture 2 Tim. 4:7-8 Topic: Paul’s mission Acts 13-14; 16-20; Romans 1; 3-6; 8; 12; 15 1. After Paul found the Lord, what was his passion and mission in life? 2. What is your passion and mission in life? 3. Did everyone accept Paul and his message when he preached? 1. When in a new city, why did Paul invariably begin his outreach at the Jewish synagogue? 2. What would have happened to Christianity if the Jewish believers who insisted that Gentiles become Jews prevailed? 3. What does Paul’s letter to the Romans reveal to us about salvation? 1. Paul spent all of his time, post conversion, telling others about the gospel. How would you define “the gospel”? What separates it from every other message you can give to someone? Have you ever shared the gospel with someone else? What happened? How does the gospel affect those who hear it? What impact does it have on your life? 2. (Parents: this is not a light discussion, it may not be for everyone) Paul warns Christians to stay away from sinful acts, such as sexual immorality, impurity, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, jealousy, fits or rage, drunkenness, etc. Do any things in this list stand out as extremely bad or not so bad sins? In God’s eyes is all sin the same? Looking at the above list, talk about specific ways you can overcome certain sinful behaviors. With all the pornography on the Internet and sexualized commercials on TV, is it harder today to stay pure and sexually moral? 1. God doesn’t want us to live half-heartedly for him. He wants our total commitment. He wants us to be passionate about the things he’s passionate about. He wants us to have the faith to persevere like Paul. Go to YouTube and watch “Ray Vander Laan – Run!” It’s at www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cizsb_GE_zc After you’ve watched this short video, talk about Ray’s message. Why don’t we live passionate lives for Jesus? Why is it easy to fall into part-time discipleship? How can we live as Christian Olympians? Remember: Don’t hold back in your Christian life. How we live shows others that God is king! 2. Paul and Silas stayed in prison, even when they had a chance to leave. Here is an experiment that is all about staying put. You will need a penny, a playing card, and a foam/paper cup. First, lay the card on top of the cup, covering the opening. Then place the penny on top of the card. Now, quickly pull the card from under the penny. What happened? The penny stayed put and dropped in the cup. How many times do we follow the movements of people around us? Talk about what it means to follow God, even if it means staying in prison. Some material has been taken from The Story curriculum and Hands On Bible. 1. Pray for missionaries. 2. Thank God for the people you know who have shared the gospel with you. 3. Ask God to give you boldness in your faith. 4. Pray for clarity in knowing your mission and purpose.
