Working together on a future-proof sector iSHARE-project.org together • Working on a future-proof sector 2 Transport and logistics is one of the strongest pillars of the Dutch economy. The Dutch government has voiced its ambition to remain at the top of the worldwide ranking, which is why it is promoting and stimulating continuous improvement and innovation in the sector as part of its policy for leading sectors. The prospects are good: after years of decline, the industry is expected to grow by two per cent in 2017. But it also faces threats. The sector is facing the challenge to cope with growing competition at home and abroad, pressure on pricing, market fragmentation, staff shortages and increasing complexity of the distribution chain. In addition, demands on the internal organisation and operations are growing due to the increasing need for more fine-grained distribution. These market conditions force the industry to work and cooperate in a smarter, more efficient and effective way. Organisations can improve efficiency and reduce costs by sharing data. Large-scale data sharing is already taking place in the logistics sector. This is important. However, the Neutral Logistics Information Platform (NLIP) – a Logistics Top Sector initiative to promote data sharing in the industry – is convinced that the sector is missing out on opportunities to make the difference. 3 for further • Obstacles data sharing There is no lack of data or data sharing initiatives. But when attempting to make data more accessible and usable, many initiatives run into obstacles. The main obstacle is the lack of coordinating standards and the fragmentation of solutions. This fragmented approach undermines closer collaboration within the chain and prevents further improvements in efficiency. Moreover, publishing specific information in the chain and connecting various IT solutions raise questions about data protection. ‘Who can see my data? How can I trust that party? And how can I keep control?’ NLIP aims at removing these obstacles for further data sharing by collaborating with the industry on developing a scheme or set of agreements for data sharing. • Accelerate data sharing 4 iSHARE, the uniform, simple and controlled way of sharing logistical data Since June 2016, public and private partners within the Transport & Logistics sector have been jointly developing a uniform set of agreements or scheme for identification, authentication, and authorisation, in the iSHARE project. With these agreements in place, it will soon be possible for everyone in the logistics sector to share data with everyone else – including hitherto unknown parties – in a simple and controlled way. shown, and how, and that they can block access to this data at any time. Advantages of iSHARE The iSHARE scheme assures data owners that their data will at all times only be made available to parties they trust, that they themselves determine which data will be At the same time, more intensive collaboration in the supply chain will ease pressures on the infrastructure and environment. Because the iSHARE scheme also lays down how data owners can delegate rights, parties will be able to exchange data even with hitherto unknown parties. iSHARE will enable organisations to achieve major efficiency improvements and time and cost savings. • Advantages of iSHARE 1. Uniform 2. Simple 3. Controlled • A single way of working that is suitable for all modalities, organisations large and small, public and private-sector parties, bodies requesting data and those supplying it, and their software suppliers. As a result, iSHARE creates opportunities for improvements in efficiency, as well as savings in terms of time and costs. • • • • • Sharing data simply, across the whole sector. Doing business easily, with previously unknown parties. Certainty about the reliability of parties. A ‘building block’ that is simple to ‘implement’. Supplementary to existing solutions. • Data owners maintain control at all times. They determine themselves whether they share data, and with whom. • Strong reliability of data. with • Co-creation the sector In 2017, various organisations in the transport and logistics sector will be working in small-scale sessions under the guidance of innovation experts Innopay to produce a set of agreements that are useful and usable for everyone in the sector. During these co-creation sessions, the participating organisations will provide feedback concerning any legal, operational, functional or technical questions that may come up during the development of the scheme. The details of the draft scheme will then be worked out in a concrete Proof of Concepts and tested in practice. iSHARE-projectorganisatie WTC F-tower 3rd Floor Strawinskylaan 381 1077 XX AMSTERDAM [email protected] In January 2018, iSHARE will go live in a lead group composed of logistics businesses and their clients, and be ready for sector-wide adoption.
