SLUSD News Math Acceleration Request With our transition to Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Mathematics, we are updating our acceleration pathways and processes. CCSS in Math for 6th-8th grade contain standards previously taught in high school and include increased demands around reading, writing, and demonstration of mathematics concepts and complex problem solving in real world applications. In order for a student to successfully accelerate in mathematics and skip a course, there are many variables that must be considered. These variables include: 1. Student Desire to Accelerate 2. Teacher Recommendation 3. Grades (A grade of “4” in elementary or “A” in secondary over the last year) 4. Academic Ability as demonstrated through the following measures: 1. Summative CAASPP Results in Mathematics 2. Star Reading and Math Results 3. Results from the Math Readiness Test The Math Readiness test will be universally administered to all students in grades 5th, 6th and 7th grades during the last two weeks of the school year. Students identified will be notified about the math acceleration application. If you have questions and want to submit an application before the administration of the Math Readiness test, please complete the form below and provide the required documentation requested to your site principal.
