presented North Carolina statistics on gambling addiction. The Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-877-718-5543 answered 4,578 calls from July 2014-June 2015. 36.7% of callers stated that lottery was their gambling problem with 36.4% calling about sweepstakes. Since the retailer training program was launched in October 2014, over 2,500 retailers have been trained and 3,230 retailers have also utilized the responsible gaming button on the home screen of the Altura terminal. We love seeing our retailers engage in this important issue and encourage everyone to continue to expand their knowledge on how to encourage responsible play. Having our retailers trained in responsible gaming, we can help combat gambling addiction in North Carolina by referring players to the NC Problem Gambling helpline or morethanagamenc.com. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the responsible gaming program or would like to learn more please email Bre Hager at [email protected] or Jaime King Fuquay at [email protected] This is our purpose and driving force behind what we do every day. As our retail partners, we wanted you to be among the first to know that the look of the NCEL is changing. The logo is the manifestation of our brand purpose. We wanted it to be fresh, contemporary and fun, while tipping our hat to the place where we hang our hats: the mountains, the ocean and the ever-sunny skies of our beloved North Carolina. New terminal equipment will start arriving in your stores. Followed by new play centers, ticket checkers and jackpot signs. Point-of-sale materials will show up with the new logo. Ashley Trantham, Se Our New Look NCEL Responsible Gaming Inside: Our New Look it ur Our Re ta i Please Sign Your Ticket Lottery Link It is not unusual for the Security department to receive calls from players that have either lost their ticket or claim that someone else has claimed their ticket. Many players do not understand that unsigned winning tickets are like cash and can be claimed by anyone, so players don’t know to protect those tickets as if they were cash. Let “Please sign your ticket” be a script that all store clerks follow when presented with winning tickets! Proper checking of ID is each retailer’s responsibility, so please be sure that all of your store’s personnel are aware of this requirement. Retailer Incentives Issue 38 | October 2016 That’s the message that we want every player to receive when they present a winning ticket at our retail partners’ locations! Because lottery tickets are “bearer instruments”, it is very important that we instruct our players at every opportunity, to sign the back of their ticket(s). By instructing the players to sign their ticket(s), you are not only helping them make sure that they receive what is rightfully theirs, but you are also instilling a great sense of trust in you as a retailer. If the players know that you are looking out for their best interest, then they will have more faith in the integrity of the game and in you…which will likely translate into additional sales! Biggest Wins of the Year Our partnership with you produced a record year in sales and earnings 0.54% 2.6% 2.43% $62 Million $13 Million $58 Million 12.00% 0.53% 5.29% You know it’s a good year for business when both your sales and earnings beat the numbers you achieved the year before. And our latest year, thanks to our partnership with your stores, was a great year. $13 Million $286 Million 8.76% 67.86% How great? $126 Million Record sales! Lottery ticket sales soared past $2 billion for the first time ever, setting a new record of $2.38 billion. And record earnings! Together, we raised $634 million for education programs in North Carolina. This record of success is possible because North Carolinians enjoy playing lottery games and supporting the lottery’s mission. Here’s some amazing stats for you to remember. Last year, the lottery recorded: • $6.5 million a day on average in sales. We had our best day on the day of the world-record Powerball jackpot when we sold $28 million in lottery tickets. • $4.1 million a day on average in prizes paid to players, including 58 wins of $1 million or more. • $1.7 million a day on average raised for education. The prizes mean a lot of fun for players. The earnings mean a lot of money available for education that wouldn’t be there otherwise. And the sales, well they mean more commissions for y’all. To assist with this, the legal sell-to age date is now located at the top of the terminal screen. NCEL FY16 Net Sales: $2.38 Billion $1.6 Billion $209 Million Best Selling Scratch-Off Games FY16 was another record year for scratch-off games with sales of over $1.6 Billion. Scratch-off sales were up over 25% from the previous year. The new $30 game, Ultimate Millions, was a big part of that growth and quickly became the best-selling instant game in NCEL history. Retailers across the state earned the largest amount of commission so far, $166 million. Commissions were up 21 percent, or $28 million more than the year before. It was quite a way to end our first decade in business. Let’s see what new records we can set in the next 10 years. NCEL Holiday Closings $1 Games Lucky 7s 5X The Cash!
