We need your help! - Castlemorton Primary School

Welcome back to Green class for our new year 2 children and to our new year 1
children, it is wonderful to see you all eager to start in your new class. The
children really are settling in to our daily routines and structure well. Miss
Jones, Miss Steedman and I are all really impressed with how they have
started. If you have any questions about green class, please do come in and see
me or catch me on the playground.

Reading books.
Homework.
If you can volunteer to help
hear readers at school,
please let me know. I am
very grateful to Sussanah
Bramley who has already
started this week.
We will check reading books as often as
possible. If your child needs to change their
book, they can do it and we will help or you
could come in help them. I will check
planners every week for messages and
book changes. I will hear every child read
at least twice a week in guided reading
sessions (not with their reading books). We
also hear reading happening in English,
phonics, science, topic and maths...it
happens a lot!
Main learning log will come out every Friday
on the school website,
www.castlemortonprimaryschool.co.uk If you
do not have Internet access, let me know. It
is really important at this young age to hear
your child read as often as possible. Ideally
some reading every night, we really do see
the benefits in school and in their learning.
Linked to phonics groups, your child will
come home with spelling words, sound
patterns, phonics games most weeks.
Please help with these. These are the
building blocks for writing.

top of all other lessons. Please support these
important areas of learning at home. You can do
this by reading with your child daily, playing spelling
games, diary writing...the list goes on. There are
also hundreds of apps and websites that you can use
to help your children too. If you would like help

mathematical knowledge and understanding this
week. They have shown some great skills. For
year 1 the main area that we need to work on is
calculations using addition and subtraction. For
year 2 we need to work on multiplication and
division. There are 1000s of games on the
Internet where you can help support your child at
home. Our topic is ‘The Jungle Book.’
Forest School.
Forest school dates:
This term we will be going down to forest school
every fortnight unless a message is sent home.
On the dates to the right please come to school
dressed in forest school clothes with your school
uniform in a bag. As the weather is turning
colder and wetter please ensure your child has
warm, thick, waterproof clothing, including a coat
and a hat. Over the years we have found that at
least 2 pairs of socks need to be worn to keep
little toes warm!

finding them please come in to look at what we
use in class.
And finally…I have booked a trip out for Green class
as part of our topic linked to Henri Rousseau and his
painting ‘Surprised’. We will be travelling to London
to visit the national gallery and see his painting. We
will also be going on a mini tour around some of the
sites. Like last year when we travelled to Leicester
space centre the trip is open to a parent per child
due to the distance. It will be a wonderful
opportunity to also see some of our national
buildings. This trip will be on Friday 18th October.
We will be leaving early at 8am prompt and arriving
back late to make the most of the trip.
