Minimum age – participants must be 7 years of age. Maximum age is 25. Participants turning 25 in the year of the event will be eligible irrespective of the event being held after their actual birthday. Proof of age may be called. Participants are required to pay an entry fee of $90.00 (members) or $123 (non-member) for first entry and $10.00 for further entries. This includes membership, merchandise, insurance and meals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Animal Age limits – Bulls must be over 6 months and under 16 months of age at 1st July 2017 led by competitors 16 yrs and over. Heifers must be over 6 months and under 24 months of age at 1st July 2017. Cows must have been shown previously as a heifer at a Heifer Junior Show. Calves on cows must be registered and 9 months and under. All heifers, bulls and cows must be registered with the Society and commercial heifers led heifers//steers must be milk tooth and must be pure Herefords or have a minimum of 50% Hereford infusion. All registered animals must be legibly tattooed with the tattoo and symbol in one ear. Herefords Australia inspection standards will apply. All cattle must have a readable NLIS tag. All exhibits must have an acceptable temperament and be broken to lead – nose clips are compulsory. Neck straps to be worn in stall. Rings in bull over 12 months old. The maximum number of exhibits per participant is three not including calves on cows. All exhibits during the show must be attended by the competitor if competent. Adult assistance will only be allowed where deemed necessary for safety reasons. Inexperienced participants should be accompanied by an adult or matched with an experienced junior. Please advise the committee of these arrangements on the check list form. Exhibitors must wear their supplied bibs at all times. Stud advertising is allowed within the cattle stall areas above in which their cattle reside. Show sponsors are allowed to present banners etc. around the outside of the ring. Classes for competitors will be determined after the entries close. 14. Dress: long trousers/jeans shirt, jumper or windcheater, hat and stock boots. Note:Sandshoes, sneakers or thongs are not permitted. White coats or jackets are not permitted. Ties and scarves are allowed. HQYA will supply your merchandise. Please supply your size/ measurements on form where indicated. 15. All competitors enter at their own risk. Insurance and personal public liability are the responsibility of the youth Show participant. 16. Any complaints must be forwarded in writing to the Herefords Queensland Youth Association. No verbal complaints will be accepted. 17. Exhibitors/cattle donors must supply their own cattle feed and equipment. 18. No dogs will be allowed on the grounds. 19. Clipping chutes will be allowed in designated areas. 20. Showers and camping space available on the grounds. This will incur a cost. Please indicate how many camping on the check list. 21. Cattle bedding will be supplied. 22. Health status of all exhibits must conform with the District Veterinary Officer’s requirements and documents as to full status must be available on the day. 23. High schools, school project clubs and rural youth clubs etc. are eligible to participate and every endeavour will be made to assist such groups in obtaining a suitable animal. To assist the committee please indicate your requirements on the entry form with your nominations. 24. Calves to be restrained at all times otherwise tethered by committee. 25. The Committee reserves the right to organize the animals and participants into appropriate groups after receiving entries taking into consideration sizes of groups. Such grouping will be given out at registrations. Awards & Prizes All Youth Placings are judged to 6th place with encouragement ribbons given to remaining participants in young groups. INTERSTATE COMPETITION – Overall National Champion CATTLE AWARDS: COMMERCIAL HEIFER CLASS – minimum 50% Hereford, milk tooth, heifer bred for longevity within a commercial herd as a productive cow producing calves annually. Approximate date of birth. LEAD HEIFER/STEER CLASSES – Open to all milk tooth purebred steers/heifers or steers/heifers with a minimum of 50% purebred Hereford infusion, must have white face characteristics. HEIFER AND BULL CLASSES - Heifers must be over 6 months and under 24 months of age at 1st July 2017. Bulls must be over 6 months and under 16 months of age at 1st July 2017 led by competitors 16 yrs and over. FUTURITY CLASSES – A female that has been previously shown at a Heifer Show. GRAND CHAMPION HEIFER - This is judged upon all heifer champions. The futurity cow cannot be judged in this class but can participate in the Supreme Champion. SUPREME CHAMPION ANIMAL OF THE JUNIOR HEIFER SHOW - will be judged from grand champion bull, commercial heifer, lead heifer/ steer, heifer and cow.
