need further clarification on please contact the
Freebird office prior to the event.

Please note we cannot change or amend any
start times at this late date. Please do not ask.
Any last minute updates will be posted on the
Ripon Tri website and Freebird website please
check this regularly to make sure you are aware
of any changes

What time should I arrive?
Allow yourself plenty of time. You will need a minimum of 1.5 hour before your swim start time.

How to get there Venue
Ripon Racecourse
Boroughbridge Road

Travelling from the North ‐ Exit the A1(M) at junc on 50 onto the A61
(South). A er approximately 4.5 miles exit the A61 onto the B6265
In 0.5 mile turn right into Ripon Racecourse.
Travelling from the South ‐ Exit the A1(M) at junc on 48.
At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A168.
At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A168 North.
Con nue for approximately 2.5 miles then exit at the roundabout
(first exit) onto the B6265.
Con nue along this road for approximately 4 miles before turning le
into Ripon Racecourse.

Car Parking:
Car parking is available at Ripon Racecourse. Please follow the signs and marshals directions.
Please note that supporters of Yorkshire Air Ambulance will be operating the car parking area.
A parking charge of £3.00 per car will be asked for, proceeds of which will be donated to
Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Toilets & Showers:
Toilets and showers are located at the race venue.
Showers are free to use for all competitors and campers.

BTF Membership
After parking, please go straight to the
If you declared BTF membership when
registration area. This will be located in the
large brick built building as shown on the map
above.

Please be aware that if you do not have your
licence you will be asked to pay an additional
£5 for BTF day membership before receiving
your race pack.
Follow the well signed pedestrian route from
the car park to the registration area. Please
use the specific crossing point when crossing
the racecourse itself.
At Registration you will collect your
competitors race pack along with your timing
chip and any other last minute information you

when entering online you will already have

This race will be held under British Triathlon Federation rules. You should make yourself fully
conversant with these. You can download the rules from the Triathlon England website
Race Briefing
There will be a compulsory race briefing in
the Transition Area at 12:30. All competitors
must listen to this briefing.

What Should I Do Next?
After registering, attach your Bike Security
number to your bike, then take your bike to
the Transition Area BIKE CHECK IN Gate.
The bike racking is numbered. Please keep all
your race equipment within the confines of
your own bike space.
Please do not leave any boxes or large bags
near your bike, Please use the luggage pens
at the end of the Transition Area.
Your Race Numbers should be attached to
your clothing so that your number is visible on
your back while cycling and on your front
while running.
Number Belts are permitted.
Transi on Area Security
Please note:
Only competitors, race officials and Freebird
staff will be allowed into the transition area, no
spectators under any circumstance. This is for
everybody’s safety and security.
When checking your bike into the transition
area before your race you will be asked to
show both your race number and bike security
label (attached to your bike) before being
allowed into transition. After your race you will
be asked once more to show your race
number which must match your bike security
label before being allowed out of transition
with your bike and equipment

Relay Team Entries
If you are competing in this year’s event as part of a relay team, you will need to change over
team members from one discipline to the next. This takes place in the marked area within
transition, please make yourself familiar with this area.
Please ensure that you transfer the timing chip from one competitor to the next, otherwise you
will not record a time. Timing chips should be worn around your left ankle.

Spectator Guide There is great spectator viewing around the race venue.
Spectators are most welcome and you will be able to see a lot of the race, but please
follow these basic rules to ensure the safety of yourself and all of the competitors at the
Ripon Triathlon
Only park in the official car park No spectators vehicles on the course please No spectators in the Transi on area please Do not cross any fences or barriers Follow the marshal’s instruc ons and look out for compe tors who are racing Please keep all dogs on a lead within the race venue No Drones are to be flown anywhere within the Racecourse grounds Black Sheep Brewery Ripon Triathlon

The Swim
The swim is a single lap open water lake swim
of 1500m.
Competitors will be able to warm up in the
water just ahead of their swim wave. There is
a short swim from the point of entry to the
race start. Please note the swim starts with
an in water start.
There will be 9 separate wave starts
separated by 7 minutes. You will be told at
registration which wave to start in.
The swim route is a simple 1 lap clockwise
circular course.
The first wave will start at 1.00pm
The race will not start until all swimmers are
behind the start line
The swim course is marked with large inflatable
marker buoys
There will be plenty of very experienced water
safety personnel on the water throughout the
swim.
If you require assistance from the safety
boats, turn onto your back and wave your
arms to attract the attention of the safety
marshals.
When the safety craft reaches you, follow the
instructions from the safety marshal, they
are there to help you.

Please seed yourself at the swim start.
Slower or less confident swimmers are
advised to keep to the back of the pack.
When you finish your swim there will be
marshals to help you out of the water.
Follow the fenced off route towards the
Transition Area. As you cross the timing mat,
your swim time will be recorded.
Transi on T1 Leave your wetsuit near your bike spot
Fit and fasten your Bike Helmet, then pick up
your bike. Remember your Bike Number must
be visible from the back. Follow the signs
marked TRANSITION OUT. Follow the
marked route out of the racecourse to the
Mount Line. Cross the MOUNT LINE and then
get on your bike.

The Cycle You must wear an approved
Bike Helmet during the cycle
section.
Follow the large yellow arrow
signs. The Cycle course is
40km. Please take great care
while cycling.
You are racing on open roads
with all the other traffic.
You must comply with the
Highway Code and follow the
normal rules of the road at all
times. You do not have any
special priority,
and must give way as normal
at road junctions.
Race Marshals do not have
the authority to stop traffic
they are only there to point
the direction. You must look
first and only go if you think it
is safe.
Any competitor judged to be
riding dangerously will be
disqualified. This is a Non
Drafting race (See BT
Rules www.britishtriathlon.org
There will be Motor Cycle
Referees and static Draft
Control Marshals out on the
course.
If you are reported for drafting
you may incur time penalties
or disqualification in line with
the current BT rules.
Drafting is cheating, so
please don’t do it.

At the end of your cycle ride, as you approach the Transition Area, you will see the DISMOUNT
LINE. You must be fully off your bike Before you cross this line. As you cross the timing mat
your cycle time will be recorded.
Transi on T2
After dismounting at the Dismount Line
follow the marked route back to the transition area.
Return your bike to its original rack position. Rack your bike before removing your Bike Helmet.
Make sure your Run Number is visible from the front.
Follow the signs marked TRANSITION OUT to head out on the run.
The Run
The Run is 10km
Follow the large yellow arrow signs.
The Run is a looped circuit that incorporates an
out and back section.
Drinks will be available on the run route at the
start of the run, at 2.5km, at 5km, at 7.5km & at
the Finish
Please take care and be aware of other users of
the roads and paths. Please help us to retain
this wonderful venue by showing curtesy to our
neighbours at all times during your race.
On the out and back section, look out for
runners coming the other way, especially at
corners.
The return section of the run is alongside the
canal path before finally turning into the grounds
of the racecourse and then the final
section of the Ripon Triathlon. Follow the signs to
the Finish funnel and run under the finish gantry.
As you cross the timing mat your run time will be
recorded.

A er The Race
After crossing the finish line you will be able to help yourself to some refreshments.
Please hand in your timing chip before you leave the finish compound (please note there will be
a charge made to cover the cost of replacing any lost timing chips).
You can collect your bike and wetsuit at any time, but you must do this in person. You will be
asked to show your race number as ID. While in the Transition Area, please be aware of other
competitors who may still be racing.
Results
You will be able to print out a copy of your
individual race times at the Results tent.

on Sunday evening
