Accommodation and Transport
There are several accommodation options in Dunedin suitable for those on a budget! These should
be available from a quick google search.
The venue is located in South Dunedin and it’s not really within walking distance easily of suburbs
North of the Octagon. There are buses but a taxi or your own transportation would be better to get
to the venue from your accommodation.
Traditionally we also have several committee members committed to assisting people who have
travelled and can pick up and drop off – do let us know if you would like to take up this option.
Additionally, if you can’t find any affordable accommodation options, there are “couch surfing”
options available from members of the NZHL community in Dunedin. Sound out the New Zealand
Hobbit League Facebook group:

Food and Refreshments and Prizes
Traditionally OMTS operate a small canteen with light snacks and drinks, tea and coffee for minimal
charges on both days to make things easier. The venue has a pub kitchen and there are the usual
greasy standby’s close by if you want to take a quick drive.
The main prizes awarded will be for 1st, 2nd, players favourite army and best Sportsperson. If there
are enough players attending, there will be additional prizes in the form of spot prizes. The Social
Contract
Don’t be a dick.
Alcohol is available on site (Over 18+ obviously)
The organisers reserve the right to bar anyone from the event who is disruptive or displays antisocial
behaviours such as racism, sexism, or homophobia. If you don’t feel comfortable at anyone please
come and speak to me directly. This should go without saying and I expect no issues but I am
available at all times to discuss this.
The venue is an older building which has its own particular issues and if you have any disability which
we need to be aware of because of access please let me know.
What you need to bring on the day:
• A copy of the scenarios and Scoring Sheet – It is vital you bring your scoring sheet!

feel free to bring it along!

Army Composition:
Players choose their force, as described on pages 100-101 of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
rules manual, to a points value of 750. You must specify who the leader of your force is, as they will
be used as your leader for all your games in the tournament. Aside from that, all armies must follow
the standard rules for force creation, as indicated on the pages above.
Your list should be put together as outlined in the Lord of The Rings Sourcebooks (“The Kingdoms of
Men”, “The Free Peoples”, “Mordor” etc.) and/or The Hobbit main rulebook and its supplementary
books.
The most recent FAQ and errata from the Games Workshop website will apply.
Models must be, wherever possible WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) i.e. model
representation must be used. In the case of “counts as” conversions or weapon swaps, please let us
know what you’re planning before the event and anything within reason will be accepted. Also,
please make sure to inform your opponents at the start of your games.
Models must be fully painted and based. The criteria for qualifying as a fully painted are a minimum
of three colours and based. The primer colour does not count as one of your base colours!
If you don’t think you can get you army finished to this standard before the event please contact me
we may be able to source some models for you or I do have fully painted armies to borrow if
someone is new to the game and hasn’t had the opportunity to finish a force yet!

Scenarios
The scenario selection will be determined before the even using the revised official scenarios from
the available 12 which can be located here:
https://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/Scenarios.pdf https://20889presscdn-pagely.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/Hobbit-Open-Scenarios.pdf All games will be
played on a layout no larger than (4’x4’)
House Rules:
If Maelstrom of Battle is in use please use the modified table below:
“Maelstrom of Battle: Before the first turn nominate one Board edge as “North” (the others will then
be E, S, W as normal). At the end of your Move phase, roll a D6 for each of your warbands not on the
battlefield and consult the chart below (the warband’s captain can use Might to alter the roll either
up or down). Models can’t charge in the turn that they arrive but otherwise act normally. Roll for
each warband separately, deploy the models in the warband, then roll for the next. Warbands yet to
arrive count as being on the battlefield for the purposes of determining if your force is broken.
D6 Result
1. The warband does not arrive yet.
2. Your warband arrives on the North board edge from a point at least 6” from a corner – all models
in the warband move onto the battlefield from this point.
3. Your warband arrives on the East board edge from a point at least 6” from a corner – all models in
the warband move onto the battlefield from this point.
4. Your warband arrives on the South board edge from a point at least 6” from a corner – all models
in the warband move onto the battlefield from this point.
5. Your warband arrives on the West board edge from a point at least 6” from a corner – all models
in the warband move onto the battlefield from this point.

6. You choose a point on any board edge at least 6” from a corner – all models in the warband move
onto the battlefield from this point.”
Scenario Rounds
For the first game of the tournament, players will be randomly drawn to a table and an opponent. It
is advised that you aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the first game to make sure
you are ready to start the first game at the assigned time. If you want to play a particular opponent
in the first round in a ‘grudge match’, this can be arranged, as long as both players are happy for this.
Please contact me in advance about this or notify me on the day. We’ll see what we can do!
Each player will play 6 games; 3 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday.
After the first round, the draws for all rounds will be made using some sort of Euro raking system,
Swiss, Swedish? Who knows…The intent is you should not have to play the same player twice and
will be matched against opponents of equivalent experience.
However, the topped ranked players in the final round will play each other to determine first and
second place so this may mean you play someone twice. If this is a draw then overall tournament
points will be used.
If we still have a tie then the Circle method will be used…
