Since Wednesday is theme day, this week's theme is based on this sporting event! You may want to show up as a soccer player, a runner, a bowler (yes, that's part of the Pan-Am Games!), or any other athlete of your choice. Last week was a great time! My favourite part was on Tuesday we had a rainy day. Now, normally rain days at camp can be extra busy, but Tuesday was different. We have a new program that we use called Groove. It involves free form dancing, and it turned out to be a ton of fun to do with lots of campers. I'm almost excited for the next rainy day! Nate Oudyk (Site Director at Chippewa) If you're stuck for a costume, here are a few quick ideas: - Find some long socks, pull them up as high as you can and wear a jersey to be a soccer player. - Get creative and fid something you can use as a sweatband. Strap on some running shoes and you're a runner! Can't wait to see those wonderful costumes! FUN Factor Friday!!! Every Friday, we like to take some time as a camp to reflect on the good times we've had throughout the week. So, we have a Fun Factor Friday celebration! This week we are also having Christmas in July on Friday, so be sure to wear some festive red and green. You could go for a Santa costume, or make some reindeer horns and a red nose: it's up to you! A Few Notes... - - Typical Daily Schedule Every morning we gather for 'flagpole' where we split up into our day groups. From there, each day is a bit different for each group. Throughout the week, campers will have the chance to do: - Swimming (every day) - Archery - Canoeing - Hiking - Group Initiatives - Various Outdoor Sports - Other camp games - And more! A typical day schedule for these groups may look something like this: 9:00-9:30 9:30-10:00 10:00-10:15 10:15-11:15 11:15-11:45 11:45-12:15 12:15-12:45 12:45-2:00 2:00-3:00 3:00-3:30 3:30-3:45 Arrival/Bus Zones Flagpole Snack Canoeing Soccer Crafts Lunch Swimming Archery Flagpole Board the Busses - Each Chippewa camper is given a wristband at the beginning of the week to indicate which bus they are on. Please help us keep these on for the duration of the week so we can help them find the right bus. If a camper is going to be absent from camp, please contact either the YMCA Day Camps office at 905-317-4929 or the Chippewa line directly at 905-627-7337. When packing lunches, please remember that we are outdoors and not always close to garbage cans. We encourage litter-less lunches. Also, Chippewa is a nut-safe camp. Please avoid packing anything that contains peanuts or other tree nuts. Things to Bring to Camp: - Sunscreen and bug spray Swimsuit and towel Extra change of clothes A lunch and snack Refillable water bottle Any medications should be accompanied by a med form and given directly to the staff at the bus stop.
