Let’s Play! 19th Century Games & Toys Hard to imagine a time without televisions, or smart phones, or tablets…So when lessons were studied and chores were finished, what did children do to have fun? Try your gracefulness with the Graces, try not to get tangled up with Cat’s Cradle or your problem solving skills with a game like Fox & Geese. Experience 19th century games and toys as they would have been played 150 years ago. Participants will learn the history of each game and toy. Students are encouraged to understand what was the purpose for each game or toy beyond its entertainment. Why were these toys made out of certain materials? What do these games and toys tell us about society? Let’s Play! 19th Century Toys & Games is available as a part of school tours to the Phelps Mansion Museum upon request. Allow an additional 45 minutes for total visit.
