Summary – Head of Strategy
Reporting into the Group Executive Employers, Corporate development and Strategy, this newly
created position will play a critical role in both the leadership and strategic and commercial
direction of the fund. This will include control of the centralised strategic planning team as well as
the customer research and business insight teams.
The primary focus, in conjunction with the Group Executive, will be on developing, communicating
and sustaining the funds overall strategy and portfolio of strategic initiatives to both internal and
external stakeholders.
The role will also be responsible for developing a core strategy analytical capability that integrates
with and leverages the capabilities of the business insights team. The role is also expected to bring a
balanced commercial perspective to the broader fund.

Accountabilities








Working with the business units to develop individual strategies to drive decision making
around the funds direction and prioritisation of strategic initiatives and the supporting
investment;
Development, management and communication of the annual strategic and business planning
process and portfolio funding envelope;
Ongoing assessment of market conditions and the impact of economic, political and regulatory
forces on the strategic choices available to the fund;
Development of business unit strategies in conjunction with the relative Group Executives as the
basis of the integrated fund strategy. This will include the provision of analytical support and
data to support business unit activities;
Management of the annual strategic planning process including the preparation of the annual
business plan and supporting project investment portfolio;
Translation of strategies into clearly articulated initiatives and plans;
Developing a methodology for capturing, developing and assessing innovation concepts that
originate within the fund for subsequent investment;
Acting as the focal point for engagement with the broader innovation community including
fintech start-ups.

Key Selection Criteria








A relevant undergraduate degree, coupled with post graduate studies are essential. An MBA
would be highly regarded;
Significant strategy experience either with a top tier consulting firm or within an embedded
corporate strategy function;
Significant experience in a large financial institution with exposure across product marketing and
distribution;
Skill and demonstrated experience in strategy formulation and execution including the
management of a diverse range of stakeholders;
Practical and highly developed financial analytical skills;
Ability to work in a politically complex environment with multiple conflicting stakeholders;
Exceptional people management skills and experience including coaching and mentoring;
High level of written, verbal and presentation skills.

report will also cover multiple jurisdictions if the candidate has worked overseas for a period of longer

This is a full time position; however flexible working arrangements can be requested.
