Symptoms
When you try to save a document as a .doc file (Word 97-2003 document) in Microsoft
Word 2010, you receive the following error message:
You are attempting to save a file type (Word 2007 and later Binary Documents and
Templates) that has been blocked by your File Block settings in the Trust Center.
This error occurs when you open a Microsoft Office file type blocked by File Block
settings in the Trust Center.
Cause
This issue occurs if the Save check box is selected for Word 2007 and later Binary
Documents and Templates under File Block Settings in the Trust Center dialog box.
However, this setting also applies to the Word 97-2003 file format when the
documents are saved in Word 2010.
Resolution
To save documents in the Word 97-2003 file format, follow these steps:
1. In Word 2010, click the File tab, and then click Options.
2. In the Word Options dialog box, click Trust Center, and then click Trust Center
Settings.
3. In the Trust Center dialog box, click File Block Settings, and then clear the Save
check box for Word 2007 and later Binary Documents and Templates.
4. Click OK.
