Defensive Line Drill
Purpose: Getting the team to work together in a line when defending. Drill: Get the players to hold a long rope and run forward and backwards keeping the rope tight. Blue line -­‐ rope, black dots -­‐ the players. Spacial awareness and tagging game.
Purpose: To develop spacial awareness Game: Mark out two circles, one small circle with a larger circle around the small circle. Split the team into two and place one team in the small circle (red team) and the other in the outer circle (blue team). The aim of the game is for the red team to escape through the blue teams territory to safe ground. Meanwhile the blue team are trying to tag the red team to stop them. First team to get either four tags or four players to safety wins. Passing drill for dummy half
Purpose: Dummy half practices looking up and passing opposite direction to the defenders. This will help the players develop the skill to pass both ways. Drill: Tagged player rolls the ball under their feet and dummy half runs and picks it up. Meanwhile defenders run to one side of dummy half. Dummy half has to look up and pass ball to opposite side of defenders. Attacking team can have turns at being the dummy half and then teams can swap roles. Rats and Rabbits
Purpose: speed, agility and tagging practice. Game: Two teams rats and rabbits. Each team stands opposite each other and coach calls rats or rabbits. The team coach calls, is the team that has to run to a marked spot before the other team tags them.
