Support from the Fans From the Football Fans Census survey, 83%, of the 2023 people asked if goal-line technology should be implemented, said they would like it to become a routine part of pro soccer Game Changing Calls On soccer’s biggest stage • 2010 World Cup, England vs. Germany Disallowed goal because referee did not see ball go over the line. 4-1 Germany • 2010 World Cup, Slovenia vs. USA Disallowed tie breaking goal by Maurice Edu. 2-2 Draw FIFA Guidelines • FIFA, the governing body of professional soccer will not implement goal-line technology unless it meets the following requirements – Must be real time – 100% accurate – Reliable – Only to be used by officials Alternatives • Extra referees behind the goals. Gives extra eyes on the goal-line as well as a more clear view of the penalty area.
