Why I Chose My Topic and Product
• Soccer has always been a part of my life and
one of the biggest faults in soccer is the
potential for error.
• Since soccer is considered a low scoring game,
every goal has the potential of changing the
game completely.
Should Goal-Line Technology Be
implemented in Professional Soccer?
• Goal-Line Technology keeps power in the
referees.
• Supported by fans, coaches, players and even
referees.
-John Terry
-Arsene Wenger
-Howard Webb
• About 74%-83% of soccer fans would like to see
Goal-Line Technology be implemented into
professional soccer.
Support from the Fans
From the Football
Fans Census
survey, 83%, of the
2023 people asked
if goal-line
technology should
be implemented,
said they would
like it to become a
routine part of pro
soccer
Game Changing Calls On soccer’s biggest stage
• 2010 World Cup, England vs. Germany
Disallowed goal because referee did not see ball go
over the line. 4-1 Germany
• 2010 World Cup, Slovenia vs. USA
Disallowed tie breaking goal by Maurice Edu. 2-2 Draw
FIFA Guidelines
• FIFA, the governing body of professional
soccer will not implement goal-line
technology unless it meets the following
requirements
– Must be real time
– 100% accurate
– Reliable
– Only to be used by officials
Alternatives
• Extra referees behind the goals. Gives extra
eyes on the goal-line as well as a more clear
view of the penalty area.
