SOUTH CLIFF GOLF CLUB – SUNDAY 26TH MARCH 2017
Congratulations to North Cliff GC in securing all three trophies in this year’s Alliance, completing
their dominance at a sun-drenched South Cliff on Sunday by winning the Millennium Trophy.
However, things could have been a lot better for the home club if they had not been disqualified
due to one of their team not entering the handicap of players on their returning score card.
With all three scoring AM/AM’s to count for the final trophy of the Pennant Season, two returning
cards of 132 and 135, it looked as if South Cliff, would take home advantage and stop North Cliff’s
dominance. This was not the case, Whitby came within a shot of spoiling the party with a
creditable total of 415 from their three pairings. North Cliff, however, would take the honours
with their consistency throughout the season by one shot on 414, made up from their three
AM/AM teams’ scores of 138, 140 and 136.
South Cliff had some consolation with their two scores taking the voucher prizes; Secretary
Manager Shaun Smith, Neil Bruce, Sam Pottage, and Paul Dack, providing a 12 under par total of
132 securing the tankards by one shot from their other team in second place Gary Thirkell, Luke
Douglas, Craig Salt, and C Knaplin would see them 9 under with a better back nine, from
newcomers to the Alliance, Bridlington Links, Dan Connell, K Wadsworth, D Smith, and G Lakin
completing the voucher prizes.
The Season has now come to its conclusion. Everyone must be thanked for their continued
support. We look forward to the next season, where clubs will form again in the Winter Alliance
at Whitby GC on the Sunday 24th September 2017.
