Under the scheme community and voluntary groups may apply for grants for capital projects which benefit the local community. The Scheme will offer grants up to a maximum of €1,000 per project. Applications are now being invited for funding under this Scheme and Forms are available at http://www.sligococo.ie/Grants/CommunitiesFacilitiesCapitalGrantScheme/ Closing date for applications form is Friday 30th June 2017 at 4pm Applications should relate to at least one key target group and thematic area in order to be eligible for consideration. Target groups and thematic areas: Youth Older people Immigrants Refugees Travellers Ex-prisoners and families of prisoners/ex-prisoners Projects promoting cultural activity Projects promoting equality Community development projects Projects promoting integration Projects which are part of the Creative Ireland 2017-2022 initiative The scheme will run initially from July 2017 - December 2017 and is focused on providing smallscale capital grants to help grass roots community projects get underway or take the next step towards completion. The Scheme is being administered by the Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs) along with the Municipal Districts under the remit of the Local Authorities (LAs) on behalf of the Department. The LCDCs will be responsible for targeting and allocating funding as they are ideally placed to identify the applications which most suitably address the Scheme's target groups and issues in each LA administrative area. The aim of the Scheme is to enhance communities, address disadvantage and improve social cohesion at a local level by providing access to small-scale capital grants. It will operate in a complementary manner with other schemes or programmes being operated in communities, including in particular, the SICAP (Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme), a recast RAPID (Revitalising Areas by Planning, Investment and Development) and CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd Riachtanais) Programmes, adding value to those and other front-line schemes. It will also seek to address some of the difficulties local community groups face in terms of accessing very often small scale levels of funding to match their own fundraising efforts, in order to get community projects off the ground. HSE National Lottery Grant The HSE has been allocated National Lottery Funding for distribution to community based groups and voluntary organisations under the Respite Care Grant Scheme and the National Lottery Grant Scheme. Groups and organisations involved in the provision of Health and Personal Social Services can apply for once off funding of between €500 and €10,000 for suitable projects. Completed Application Forms must be returned to the local Community Healthcare Organisation (CHO) Find the location of your local CHO office here Please ensure that your application is submitted to the correct CHO, as submission to the wrong CHO may result in your application not being processed. Closing Date for Applications – 17:00 on Friday 26th May 2017 Lottery Application Form 2017.doc (size 119.3 KB) Lottery Application Form 2017.pdf (size 181 KB) Applicants will be advised as to the outcome of their application no later than Thursday 31.08.2017 Energy for Generations Fund - ESB ESB's Energy for Generations Fund sees over €2m per year disbursed across a range of community and issues-based initiatives. Each year the Fund awards €1m in direct funding through a quarterly fund to charities working in the areas of suicide prevention, homelessness and education access and support. ESB has been supporting initiatives in the areas of suicide prevention and homelessness since 2005. The Energy for Generations Fund introduced a new focus on education in 2014, which recognises the need for educational supports at all levels to ensure that Ireland has the skills it needs to compete effectively in the future. The remainder is allocated across a range of initiatives including support for ElectricAid, wind farm community funds, fuel poverty programmes and support for staff volunteering. Aim of the Energy for Generations Fund Our aim with the Energy for Generations Fund is to maximise the impact of our investment by taking a more strategic approach to effect change. Funding is only part of the jigsaw – we also want to leverage the skills and knowledge we have within the company to bring about more sustainable and positive outcomes. Support for Staff Volunteering The Energy for Generations Fund provides support to ESB staff who volunteer within their own communities. Staff who volunteer at least 20 hours of their own time per year will be invited to apply for funding of up to €250 for their chosen registered charity. Many of our staff are involved in volunteering activities in their spare time, but we have never had any formal structure to support or encourage this in the past. Through this funding, our aim is to demonstrate our support for the work our staff do within their own communities. On Wed 12th April in the GAA Centre of Excellence Scarden the Official Launch of the comprehensive list of Sligo GAA activities were launched as part of our partnership with Sligo Co Council and Sligo Volunteer Centre to demonstrate volunteerism, as Sligo is nominated as European Volunteer Capital 2017. Sligo was selected as the European Volunteer Capital for 2017 after cities like Lisbon, Barcelona and London in 2016 have received this significant honour. This is a very prestigious and noteworthy award to receive and Sligo GAA along with many more clubs and organisations will play a real part in justifying this award by demonstrating volunteerism in action. This programme outlines a summary of all the Sligo GAA activities to be organised and carried out in 2017 by many volunteers in the Clubs. The ‘’Sligo GAA Inclusion /Games for All’’ committee organised this launch along with Sligo GAA Co Board and present were Ciaran Hayes CEO Sligo Co Council, Ciara Herrity Manager Sligo Volunteer Centre, Marian Harkin MEP, Mayor of Sligo Marie Casserly, Hubert Keaney Chairman of Sligo Co Council, Sligo County Council Officials, GAA Chairman Joe Taffe, the Press and media representatives, and Sligo GAA Executive members. Tim Hynes welcomed all to the launch of the Sligo GAA activities for 2017, which will require major efforts of time and energy from many volunteers across the County to deliver. First of all he sincerely thanked Sligo volunteer Centre, Sligo Co Council and Marian Harkin for their efforts, enthusiasm and perseverance in convincing the European Volunteer Officials to grant Sligo the prestigious Award of European Volunteer Capital for 2017. The Sligo GAA Chairman Joe Taffe said that one of the activities Sligo GAA are undertaking since Sligo is the European Volunteer Capital for 2017 is to honour two volunteers from each Club, and present them with a special scroll at the County Senior Football Final on Sun 15 th Oct in Marchievicz Park. It is the perfect time for Sligo GAA to give its volunteers a ‘’thank you’’ and remind them how important they are to the organisation and to their community. The honouring of GAA Club Volunteers aims to shine a light on the remarkable work of volunteers around the County, and it is a unique opportunity to say 'thank you' to ordinary people doing extraordinary work, and also to acknowledge the volunteers who give their time, their passion and their commitment so generously to help make a difference in their community. Brief summary of the Volunteers contribution to Sligo GAA. 1. Volunteers are the life blood of Sligo GAA. 2. They are the backbone of the club and community and they underpin so much great work being done across the county. 3. Volunteers have a “can-do” attitude and it truly can be said that they are the driving force behind the success of all clubs. 4. They are great ambassadors for their clubs. 5. They are role models and beacons and inspirational for the youth to look up to. 6. Simply put – we’d be lost without volunteers! But how often do we show them how important they are? And we plan to commence acknowledging our volunteers this year. Sligo GAA activities leaves a large volunteer footprint in the clubs across the County for the health and wellbeing of those communities. Tim Hynes asked all Sligo GAA members to continue to put actions on our fixtures and activities plans, and make an indelible mark on European Volunteerism in 2017, and prove beyond doubt with all other Clubs and organisations, that Sligo is truly a worthy recipient of the European Volunteer Capital 2017. The activities are listed from Jan to end of year and many of them are core to the annual activity of the GAA. However there are a few additional events being organised to assist with vindicating the honour of European Volunteer Capital 2017 such as : Wheelchair Hurling Ch/ip Finals on Oct 14th , Official Opening of COE in Scarden on 14th May, ‘’Have a Go Day’’ or come and try Day on May 13th where all children and parents are invited to watch and participate in our full suite of sports, John West Div 1 National U14 Feile Finals on 24 th June with teams from:- Dublin, Kildare, Mayo, Galway, Cork, Kerry, Tyrone, Down, Donegal, honouring Club volunteers at County Football Final on 15th Oct and more in the list below. Sligo GAA will play a very positive role along with the many more voluntary groups in proving that Sligo is indeed a very worthy recipient of this prestigious award and honour. All the special guests Marian Harkin, Ciaran Hayes, Ciara Herrity and Hubert Keaney thanked Sligo GAA for their commitment and passion in promoting and developing GAA games and activities and also complimented the many volunteers who give freely of their time in helping out their clubs and communities. Sligo GAA Secretary Gerry O Connor acted as MC for this event and kept proceedings running smoothly and efficiently. Finally special thanks to Secretary of Sligo Inclusion /Games for All committee Bernardine Mc Gauran for her hard work in organising this momentous event and for providing the tasty refreshments.
