Today we travel to Close Park for our final game of the season and also our final game as under 10s and also
the last game we’ll play as a mini soccer team as next season we move up to 11 a side. A single point today
would clinch the runners up spot and deservedly so after such a fantastic season.
We remember playing out a 1 – 1 draw against these earlier in the season when the Eagles totally dominated
the game but struggled to find a way past their commanding goal keeper.
At kick off time the Eagles found themselves playing against 6 Radcliffe players so with current form and the
extra man odds were looking good for an Eagles win. Eagles played some great passing football but didn’t
really make the extra man count. The Eagles had plenty of chances to open the scoring but the Radcliffe
Keeper was again awesome, save after save, he commands his area with total confidence and anything hit
towards him slightly off the ground is just like shelling peas to him. Then the break through, a penalty to the
Eagles, up stepped Christiano Thickett and bang , 1 – 0. Time for the scoring gates to open but no, think
again Eagles, a long keepers kicked bounced once and the tricky little forward controlled the ball well and
one touch later flicked over Joe 1 – 1. Great equaliser and time to dig deep.
Half Time 1 - 1
2nd half, and time to chat, ok boys how are we going to beat this keeper ? the lads knew, shoot into the bottom
corners they said, well lets go and win this final game in style, lets show what a great passing team we are.
Out the lads came and the pressure mounted. The flair and confidence of the Eagles was great to see and the
Radcliffe keeper really had his work cut out. Jimmy swung in a great corner and Christian met the cross with
a perfectly timed powerful header that was in the goal before the keeper could react. 2 – 1 Eagles and the
result safe. Radcliffe kept up the fight but started to tire. Goal 3 came from a quickly taken throw-in by
Christian to Milo who found space, took a touch and fired his shot home into the corner. 3 – 1. All the lads
sensed goals and in any other match against a normal keeper the score would have been 10 plus, Adam,
Lucas, Jimmy, George all went very close forcing some great saves, then as time ticked by Arron who was
fantastic in the 2nd half stormed down the left wing cut inside and buried his shot into the far right corner.
4 – 1 and a fantastic close to the season. Hats off to Radcliffe Borough who didn’t ever give up and made the
Eagles battle all the way for their win. Out came the Chadderton Champagne and time to celebrate in style.
2nd place in the league was now all ours and rightly so, these lads have been absolutely brilliant all season, the
style of football has been 2nd to none, the “team play” right from Joe in the nets to Lucas up front has been
fantastic. When any player has been asked to play in any other position than they are normally used too they
have done as they have been asked without complaint. A truly Great team and one I am personally proud off
being their coach. So thank you Eagles and continue the same way next season which ever team you are
playing for. These memories will hopefully stay with you forever. I know I’ll never forget any of you.
Final Score : Chaddy Park Eagles 4
