SOUTH BIRMINGHAM VOLLETYBALL CLUB HANDBOOK ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS (See separate documents) ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF COACHES HEAD COACH ROLE DESCRIPTION To be the main coach responsible for coaching activities and sessions with the club SKILLS/QUALITIES REQUIRED Good inter-personal skills Qualified to the appropriate level Approachable Fair MAIN DUTIES To take full responsibility for the club’s coaching sessions at Doug Eliss Sports Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays from 19:00 to 21:00 To prepare all coaching sessions beforehand To work with and include Grzegorz Bukowski in the preparation and running of each session To attend club meetings and report on progress. To offer the club feedback on the organisation and degree of success of junior ands senior coaching and competitions To assist in the selection of teams To travel to competitions with the team(s). To inform the Junior Development Officer (or other relevant member) in advance of any sessions that cannot be attended Commitment To attend the AGM once a year and any other relevant meetings. To attend and deliver coaching sessions on a weekly basis. MISSION STATEMENT GUIDELINES What is a ‘Mission Statement’? A Mission Statement is a statement of the mission, or goal of an organisation whether this be a MultiMillion dollar company or a local sports club. The Mission Statement is a contract for ethical behaviour in which all members of the organisation or sports club are to follow. hat your club has as it’s Mission Statement is entirely an individual club’s decision – this information sheet is designed to give you a few examples of what your club’s Mission Statement could look like if you are struggling for ideas. Points to bear in mind when deciding on a Mission Statement – The Mission Statement Communicates the club’s values to people. The Mission Statement will help to guide the behaviour of people involved with the club be that parents, coaches, volunteers or players. It should be simple, with a clear vision for the future. It should be positive. It should be inspiring. Examples of Mission Statements ‘To promote and provide Volleyball playing opportunities to individuals at all abilities and ages and to enhance the sporting experience of club members.’ To enable all members to actively participate in Volleyball in a safe, effective, child friendly environment.’ ‘The club will foster the growth and development of Volleyball in Birmingham/ Solihull area/town providing learning opportunities in a safe, equitable and child friendly environment.’ ‘To help young players reach their maximum potential by providing quality coaching and learning experiences in a safe, equitable, child friendly environment.’ To provide a supportive environment in which people of all ages are provided with a quality volleyball learning experience that is fun, equitable, safe and child friendly.’ South Birmingham Volleyball club is committed to the improvement of volleyball players, coaches and referees in the (insert town/area name) area. It is the goal for all participants to learn a love for the sport of volleyball, to develop as players who are fundamentally and technically sound, and to be able to play against the best competition both locally, regionally and nationally.’ ‘To provide Volleyball within Birmingham /Solihull area by providing an environment where all individuals can play volleyball recreationally and competitively whilst maintaining a safe, child friendly and equitable environment.’ ‘To provide opportunities for all players to reach their volleyball potential.’ ‘(insert club name) are committed to providing the best possible environment for our volleyball players to reach their maximum playing potential through excellence in coaching and support.’ These are not templates; these are examples of mission statements that your club could use. They are designed to give you some ideas in order to create your own mission statement that is unique to your club and represents the values of its members. SOUTH BIRMINGHAM VOLLEYBALL CLUB EQUITY POLICY STATEMENT This club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following English Volleyball Association’s definition of sports equity: The English Volleyball Association (EVA) supports the principle of equal opportunities for all participants, member, representatives and employees whilst working for, or on behalf of the EVA. It opposes all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination on the grounds of age, colour, race nationality, religion, ethnic or national origin, gender, marital status, sexuality, or unrelated criminal convictions, or disability. The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status. The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy Volleyball in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse. All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity. The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures. SOUTH BIRMINGHAM VOLLEYBALL CLUB Code of conduct for players The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below. All players must: Always adhere to the positive aspects of the sport and show respect for match officials, volunteers, coaches and opposing players. Accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance during practice and matches; representing the club in a positive way. Respect and look after all training and playing areas at all times, leaving venues the way that they were found. Abide by the instructions of their coach and officials, provided that they do not contradict the spirit of their code of conduct. Use correct and proper language at all times. Accept success and failure, victory and defeat equally. Make every effort to attend club training sessions. Resist any temptation to take prohibited substances or use prohibited techniques. SOUTH BIRMINGHAM VOLLEYBALL CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results Never force your child to take part in volleyball Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes Publicly accept officials’ judgements Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their volleyball Use correct and proper language at all times South Birmingham Volleyball Club CODE OF CONDUCT FOR CLUB OFFICIALS AND WOLUNTEERS The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below.
