Definitions
Homecoming Court:

Homecoming Princesses:
Homecoming Queen:
The Princes, Princesses, Dukes, Duchesses, King and Queen are
the members of the Homecoming Court.
Runner-up to the Homecoming Princess.
Runner-up to the Homecoming Prince.
Male student who received the most votes from the student body
will be crowned Homecoming King.
Runner-up to the Homecoming King.
Runner-up to the Homecoming Queen.
Female student who received the most votes from the student
body will be crowned Homecoming Queen.
Minimum Qualifications for Homecoming Court Candidacy
1. Candidate must be a full-time student at the University of the Incarnate Word and have
completed two consecutive academic semesters.
2. Candidate must be in good standing with the university.
3. Candidate must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.6.
4. Candidate must be an upperclassman (sophomore, junior, and senior).
5. Candidate may not be a candidate for graduation in December 2014.

Homecoming Court and King and Queen Selection Process
1. Nominees must be sponsored by faculty member, university department or registered
student.
2. Nominees wishing to seek candidacy for the Homecoming Court will file for candidacy
by completing the Homecoming Court Application.
3. Candidates will be screened by Campus Life staff and the Homecoming Court Committee
to ensure each candidate meets the minimum qualifications.
4. The Homecoming Court Committee will review applications and narrow the pool of
candidates to no more than five male students and five female students for interviews
using the rubric attached as Exhibit A. Candidates will be ranked on a scale of 1 – 100
possible points; 100 being the highest number of possible points that can be achieved.
Committee results will remain private.
5. The five male and female semi-finalists will be interviewed by the Homecoming Court
Committee. The Homecoming Court Committee will name three male candidates and
three female candidates as finalists. The finalists will campaign for the privilege to be
named Homecoming King and Queen.
6. A general election will take place (see Timeline of Events) to determine the
Homecoming King and Queen. Students will cast a ballot to vote for one King and one
Queen through Orgsync.
7. The King and Queen will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming football game.
The runner(s)-up will serve as Homecoming Princes and Princesses respectively.

Campaign & Election Guidelines
Filing for Candidacy
1. The candidate must meet the requirements set forth in the “Minimum Qualifications for
Homecoming Court Candidacy” in the Homecoming Court Guidebook.
2. Completed applications must be filed by all candidates by the deadline, which can be
found on the Timeline of Events, posted on the Homecoming website.
3. When a completed application is submitted, each candidate will be given a copy of
these Election Guidelines. They will also be available in electronic version upon request
and posted on Orgsync.
4. Male candidates must file for King; female candidates must file for Queen.
Campaigning
1. The campaign period shall be set forth in the Timeline of Events, which can be found on
the Homecoming website.
2. Candidates must follow the UIW posting policy during the campaign period. Promotion
of a candidate may not begin before 6 a.m. on the first designated day of campaigning
and must be removed by the date set forth in the “Timeline of Events,” which can be
found on the Homecoming website.
3. All campaign material posted on campus must be approved by the Campus Life office
before being posted.
4. Campaign material (posters, banners, fliers, etc.) cannot exceed 28” x 22”.
5. Candidates are encouraged, not required, to campaign based on their answers to the
questions on the application.
6. Photos and pertinent information on each candidate will be on display in the Student
Center.
7. Any violation of campaign regulations may result in the removal of the candidate from
the contest.
8. A promotional expense limit of $50.00, to include the value of any donations, shall be
applied to each candidate.
9. Any materials used in the campaign shall be included in the expense limit, except items
provided by the Student Government Office.
10. The Homecoming Court Committee and the Student Government Advisor may request
receipts from candidates during the election.
11. The facilities used during voting shall be considered a safe zone on the days of voting
and shall be established by the Homecoming Court Committee.
12. No campaigning shall be allowed in the safe zone on the days of voting.
13. No person may be written onto the ballot.

Expectations of the Homecoming Court and Homecoming King and Queen
1. The Homecoming Court and King and Queen, all of which are referred to collectively in this
form as the Court, will serve until the subsequent court is crowned the following year.
2. The Court may be asked to make public appearances to represent the university at
functions such as fundraisers, parades, community service events, etc.
3. The Court maintains and shares core values of the Incarnate Word Mission, which are
service, faith, innovation, truth, and education. Their actions reveal commitment to social
justice and community service.
4. All members of the Court will be required to execute a University of the Incarnate Word
Media Consent and Release Form.
5. The Court will be required to have their picture taken by the Public Relations Office
before campaigning can begin.
6. The Court is expected to dress in “semi-formal” clothing for the Homecoming King and
Queen presentation at the Homecoming Football game.
7. The Homecoming Court and King and Queen, must maintain good academic standing.
Voting Procedures
1. Each member of the student body shall have the right to cast one ballot for the
candidate(s) of his/her choice.
2. Voting shall be by secret ballot and conducted in one day.
3. Voting will be done online through Orgsync. Instructions for voting will be posted on the
Homecoming website.
4. A plurality of those voting shall determine the winners. If two individuals receive the
same number of votes, the Homecoming Court Committee will cast one vote as a
committee to break the tie.
