Job Profile Job Title: Early Years Practitioner (Crèche Services) Directorate and Service: Education and Children’s Services Reports to: Crèche Services Manager Grade: FC4 Job Purpose: Providing high quality care, play and learning opportunities to children and families accessing the Fife Childcare Services Crèche Service. Key Tasks & Responsibilities: File Reference Number: o Assisting in the general operation of individual crèches including liaison with parents and families o Providing direct care for babies and children o Programming, planning and promoting the Service o Ensuring a safe and healthy environment for children o Supporting and day to day supervision of Early Years Support Workers o Carrying out routine recording and administration January 2016 Page 2 of 6 Job Profile General Tasks & Responsibilities: January 2016 o Planning, preparation and delivery of high quality programme of activities which promote safe and stimulating play opportunities for babies and children aged six weeks to twelve years on a regular or session basis. o Welcome and register children and parents/carers in a friendly, informative and reassuring manner. o Establishing good relationships with parents/carers, encouraging them to take an active interest in the care of their children. o Identify and respond to individual children’s needs through a programme of play opportunities. o Following crèche policy and practice procedures and in particular National Care Standards produced by the Care Inspectorate. o Participating in appropriate/necessary training and/or Continuing Personal Development courses. o Actively promote anti-racist, anti-sexist and non-discriminatory attitudes through all practice in the crèche with children and parents using the Service. o Informing the Crèche Services Coordinator or Crèche Services Manager of any concerns about individual children and/or staff concerns. o Arriving at an agreed time with crèche provider to set up and prepare for the crèche and at the end of the crèche clear room as instructed and write up any necessary reports, incidents and evaluation sheets. o Taking responsibility for risk assessment of establishment on a daily basis and for outings where appropriate. o Where appropriate, collection and delivery of toys and equipment to store, ensuring that toys are safe, clean and repairs required are reported. o Preparing and providing a health snack for children where required and discussed with parents. o Administering first aid / medication as appropriate. o Changing babies’ nappies, taking toddlers and older children to the toilet and encouraging good personal hygiene, e.g. washing hands. o Answering queries/providing advice on aspects of the child, e.g. behaviour, special requirements, health issues such as nappy rash cure, colic.
