Mission
The mission of the Aberdeen School District is to provide a quality education for every child
every day in a safe, supportive environment where there is respect for individual differences
and community values.
Beliefs
In pursuit of our Mission, we are guided by a set of core beliefs that is the foundation of our
educational practices:







Every child is a unique individual who deserves respect and the opportunity to learn,
grow, continually improve, and succeed in both academic and extracurricular areas.
We foster a climate of high expectations and the understanding that diversity of gender,
physical or mental ability, culture, and background is a strength to be respected.
Every child will be encouraged, motivated, and challenged to set ambitious yet realistic
goals in which the standards of performance are clear and consistent and the conditions
for learning are modified and differentiated.
Parent, school, and community support are critical to the child’s success, and building
relationships among these groups will be crucial for achieving our common vision.
Students’ optimum opportunities to learn occur in a safe, nurturing environment.
The culture of the school and community will be one that strongly encourages the
setting of high expectations, the modeling of principled behavior, the acceptance of
personal responsibility, and the display of professional, personal integrity, and honesty
as the best example for students’ growth into responsible citizens.
The administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, and stakeholders will hold high
expectations for student learning and will model initiative and persistence as they help
students achieve those expectations, demonstrating teamwork, open and honest
communication, and congenial collaboration.

The number one priority of the Aberdeen School District is student academic achievement. The
following strategic plan sets the expectation that each student regardless of ethnicity, language,
disability, or income level can achieve high standards of learning.
The framework for the focus of academic achievement in the Aberdeen School District is the Strategic
Plan, based on our Mission Statement that is founded upon deeply-held and profound beliefs
underlying all the decisions that were made in regard to this plan. Under development since
November, 2014, by many committed and experienced individuals, this plan provides our district with
concrete goals, detailed procedures for initiating them, and annually updated action plans. The focus
throughout the process in every goal, initiative, and action has been not only high expectations for all
students but also the accomplishment of world-class teaching that relies on proven and research-based
Best Teaching Practices in K-12 and all subject areas.
Throughout this process, we have used the most current and highly regarded research to guide our
work. Our decisions as educators and leaders are based on the understanding that our work, rather
than student demographic characteristics, is the primary determinant of high student achievement.
Furthermore, we have made sure that our work is clearly focused and simple enough so that every
participant in the process understands his or her role in executing the plan. Finally, we see our
strategic planning process as a valuable tool to improve student achievement as we monitor and
evaluate the plan’s effectiveness. Most importantly, we begin the implementation of this plan
immediately with the supreme confidence that our professional practices will truly influence student
achievement.
We are proud to present the Aberdeen School District’s Strategic Plan, and we are, one and all,
committed to attaining its goals. We take seriously the responsibility entrusted to us to chart a course
of excellence that will lead to lifelong success for all of our students, and we remain accountable to the
community of Aberdeen to pursue the goals within this plan with a strong, positive work ethic that
does not accept any outcome other than success.
