Tennis Coaching Newsletter Jun/Aug 2017
Team Matches, so far, this Year
Mixed Doubles Tournament
As our Aegon team tennis leagues come to an
end soon, a quick update on where all our
teams are at present:
U8’s came 4th out of 6 in their round robin
event
U9’s came 2nd out of 7 in their round robin
event (losing finalists!!!)
U10’s currently 2nd and playing the top team
on Saturday 17th June to decide who wins the
league
U14B currently top with one match left to play
on Sunday 18th June, win and they will be
Champs
U16G currently 2nd in their league but with 2
matches to go…
Mens B came 2nd in Division 3, missing out on
top spot by a very small margin!!! 9-11 in a
deciding tiebreak
Mens A came 1st in Division 1 and are now into
the play-offs on Sunday 9th July
Our Hampshire doubles teams are midseason and so far, it’s 50/50 as to whether we
will be having a good season or not??
The ladies won their first 2 matches
convincingly 7-2, but are having to concede a
match this weekend as we can’t find enough
players to make up the team, so it will be a 0-9
loss, which means the last 2 matches will
become very important, there’s still a chance of
winning, but we’ll need some big scores.
The men are 1 from 2, having won narrowly at
Avondale 5-4, we then got roasted on the grass
courts of Avenue TC 2-7 and have 3 more
matches left, with the next 2 at home where
hopefully we can put ourselves in with a chance
of winning the league as well!!!
We held a team players Mixed Doubles Tournament
on Saturday 10th June. which had 8 pairs
competing. The 8 pairs played a round robin of two
groups of four to battle it out second phase of
matches to decide the order of 1st – 8th place.
The winning pair of Natalie Macintosh/Graham
Hayman (pictured above receiving their prizes)
came out on top in a keenly contested final over
Sophie/Paul Zoltowski.
In 3rd place were Michelle Rothwell/Russell Pelling
(from Sussex) and in 4th were Jess/Jonathan
Peachey.
We would like to thank all the players who attended
the tournament.
There will be many more one day tournaments
coming up including mens and ladies doubles, so
keep an eye on the noticeboard or your emails.
Thursday Club Night..
Just a reminder that we are running our Thursday
club night throughout the summer from 7pm
onwards.
No need for a partner, just turn up and play and mix
in with other players on the indoor courts.
The session is coach-led by Will, who will be on
hand to provide tips and pointers.
Our East Hants doubles teams have also had
a funny start to the season with as many
matches being cancelled, due to weather, as
they have played…
Currently the men are 1 won, 1 loss and 1 rearrange and the ladies are 1 win, 1 loss, 2 rearrange… so lots of tennis still to be played in
this league and we won’t know final standings
till the end of August.
The ladies are looking for promotion back into
div 2 and the men after 3 years of going up are
hoping to place well in the top division…
