Matthew Winter, Head of Workforce (East)
Joanne Garzoni, Area Manager, Office of the
Medical Director (East)
Where did it come
from?
Creating a Safe Haven
The creation of a Safehaven is in response to
feedback from the last Staff Survey that BCU
needed to improve its learning from concerns
The Francis Report and Keogh Review also
place critical importance on effective support
to raise concerns.
Staff Survey 2013
Six major themes
1. Employee satisfaction and engagement
2. Focus on quality and patient care
3. Creating positive work climates
4. Supporting staff
5. Ensuring effective team working
6. Building trust
Staff Survey 2013
6.1 Improve the ability for staff to ‘whistle
blow’ in a safe environment
6.1.1 Develop a ‘Safe Haven’ for whistle
blowing to enable our staff to report incidents
or concerns (including the reporting of
colleagues and managers values, behaviours
or attitudes to patients and staff)
Safehaven
• Supports the existing process provided under
the All Wales Raising Concerns Procedure
• The Safehaven process is designed to provide
