MCC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - RECAP
Our AGM was held on Thursday, April 7th at 7:30 pm - 47 members attended.
Board treasurer, Bob Foster distributed and commented on the financial report. The gist
of which was that our expenses, particularly hydro costs, are going up and our revenues
are not keeping pace. Our year end bank balance is just under $68,000, compared to
almost $71,000 last year. Bar sales and rental revenues were down over last year, in
part, because of a reduced number of special events.
There was a motion, seconded and carried, to have the club books audited as they have
not been audited in quite a few years.
The board is looking at two cost-saving measures – relamping the ice surface with LEDs
and installing an ice management system which would have a computer automatically
control the ice making plant to run at optimum efficiency. These measures, if
implemented, will require an initial outlay and to this end, the members voted to amend
by-law 3.10 f paragraph 4, which limits the board’s discretionary spending limit to
$10,000 (an amount set prior to 1982). “That the amount in the by-law be increased to
$15,000, net of any grants, on the condition that no more than one capital project be
undertaken in one year”.
Membership and Associate membership fees will be increased by 10% (juniors
excepted). This is the first fee increase in six years. Rental rates will also be increased.
Our membership was up this year (202 members initially, compared to 174 last year) –
due in large measure to the promotional efforts of our Advertising and Promotions
director.
We have purchased a new website application which will replace the existing one and
which will be operational sometime this summer. Kara Rogers is configuring it to be
specific for MCC use. Members will be notified when it is available.
Our Chair, Dennis Risk is retiring, having served three years as chair and three years
before that as Director responsible for property. Also retiring from the board after two
terms, is Evelyn Lemont, director of Registration and Database. The term for three other
directors is up this year, but they have offered to stand for another three year term.
They were re-elected and a new director (Bill Pearson) elected by the members present.
The board will appoint a member to fill the remaining director vacancy.
The draw for a free membership was won by Gary Chambers.

JUNIOR CURLING UPDATE – from Tracy McNally
Just wanted to update you on the excitement at the Junior curling level in MCC.
The first Little Rocks session was finally held after 2 snowdates. What a great bunch some returning and some new. Jennifer Pearson and Tennile Carbert led them through
throwing activities.
Our junior team practiced for several events. They each decided to purchase MCC club
jackets, too!
They participated in the following bonspiels:
February 6 - Cameron Lewis and Sawyer Woodhouse went to Brantford for Provincial
Hit, Draw, Tap Competition Finals at the Men's Tankard.
February 20 - Meaford Service Club Bonspiel - they placed 7th in the 11:00 draw.
February 27 - Markdale Elementary School Bonspiel. The MCS Lions Curling Team
travelled to Markdale and played against Bluewater from Owen Sound in their first
game. They won this game 14-1. After a long wait the team ventured back on the ice
for their second game against Macphail and lost. However, they were 3rd overall for the
day - great team play and improved skills.
March 16 - Schomberg Gordon Fogg Memorial Shamrock Bantam Bonspiel. They lost
game one to the Aurora Bantam Girls Team. They lost game two by one point to Milton
(2014 Bantam Zone Champion).
April 7-9 - Timbits Provincial Elementary School Championships in Ganaonaque.
Alex McNally, Ally Pendleton, Cameron Lewis and Maddie Saunders represented Meaford
Community School. They held their own in the B division until the final game, losing to
an Ottawa school team. They were awarded runner-up medals for B division.
Coach Tracy McNally commented on the team’s success. “In all their outings the curlers
showed impressive teamwork and sports etiquette in addition to improving technical and
strategic skills. We are really proud of these kids. They worked hard all season - a great
bunch of kids to coach.”
They were sponsored by the Meaford Curling Club.
Note: The club has set up a formal funding program for junior curling.
THANK YOU!
A special Thank You to Tom Wilcox for using his welding expertise to fix some of the club chairs.
And to all of you who came to help with taking out the ice – Thank You!
