It has been a busy start to the term and it
is great to see that we have had a full
attendance from the beginning. We have
also welcomed a number of new children
and their families. I hope that you are
settling in to Hastings Central.
Although I was away on Friday I have had
some excellent reports about our children
who
attended
the
Earthquake
Commemoration Service. I feel that it is
important that we are part of this, not only
because earthquakes and their devastation
are topical but also because children need
to be aware of their local history. It is easy
to assume that everyone knows about the
1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake but without
these sorts of reminders children can often
miss out.
Finally I wish to advice that we have
postponed the “meet the teachers” BBQ
until next Wednesday (15 February).
Hopefully we will get some rain tomorrow
but it is also forecast to be cold so we will
look forward to a better day next week.

MEET THE TEACHERS BBQ
POSTPONED UNTIL WEDNESDAY 15 FEBRUARY
The Meet the Teachers BBQ has been postponed until next Wednesday – 15
February. The weather tomorrow is forecast to be unsuitable especially with
the cold temperatures so we will hope for a return to warmer weather next
week. Please don’t worry about the RSVP forms already returned. We can
get a fair idea about numbers coming even if the changed date means some
people’s attendance is different than stated.
ATTENDANCE
If was especially pleasing to see the full attendance of most classroms last
week. It is vital that children get every possible chance for success and
being at school every day is a great start. If children have to be absent
please let us know why they are absent.
You can do this in a way to suit you. Phone 8787366, text 021 202 0312 or
go to the website and fill in an absence form there,
We will try to contact you if children are absent without notification to
ensure their safety.
LUNCH ORDERS
It is great to be able to confirm that we are now able to offer lunch orders
three days a week. – Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. As before order forms
are available in the desk outside the office and must be made before 9.10am.

FRUIT IN SCHOOLS
The Fruit in Schools programme is not due to start until next week. I know
that children look forward to their fruit so when packing lunch boxes be
mindful that they will not have fruit this week.
BREAKFAST CLUB
Breakfast Club starts tomorrow and operates each morning from 8.15 for
any child who requires breakfast. They will be served a healthy serving of
weektbix and milk which is supplied free by Sanitarium and Fonterra.
We are still looking for some volunteers to help run the Breakfast Club. All
that is required is a commitment to one day a week between 8.15 and 9.00am
to help supervise children in Room 12. Contact the office or Talia if you can
help or want to find out more about how the programme operates.
TEE BALL
Tee Ball for Seniors begins next week. Games are played every Wednesday
starting at 3.30pm. They are played at the grounds of the schools entered
in the competition. Mr Shanley will be sending out notices which must be
returned by Thursday because entries close that day.
Before commiting children please be sure that they are available every
Wednesday. As some games are played away from school we will also need
help with transport.
