SAIT’s Alumni and Development department is seeking a Communications Manager to join its award winning team. The department has an international reputation for excellence — producing a best-in-class magazine Alumni LINK, raising $116.7 million to support the largest capital expansion in SAIT’s history, and as a key player in SAIT’s centennial programming and celebrations. The department continually seeks to raise the bar, to improve practices, and showcase creativity. The team is committed to delivering an innovative, informative and pride-inducing communications program, with a keen focus on our donors and SAIT’s 220,000+ alumni. The successful candidate is both a strategist and a doer, someone who can clearly see the big picture and who gets excited by trying new ideas. You have the ability to inspire, drive and fuel creativity. Additionally you have a proven track record of supervising creative teams and initiating successful collaborations. You also have broad communications experience in print, digital, and in developing and executing integrated communications plans. In addition to managing a team, this role is a cross-functional team member within Alumni and Development, and with the centennial and Corporate Communication teams. As a full-time contract until June 30, 2017, the position would report to the Associate Director of Alumni and Stakeholder Relations, and manage the following responsibilities: Strategist o Aligned with SAIT’s brand, strategic plan and centennial programming, develop and implement a comprehensive and innovative communications plan that supports objectives and strengthens SAIT's Alumni and Stakeholder Relations program o Oversee the distribution, and maintenance of all print collateral and electronic content, including but not limited to, LINK and ELINK, newsletters, donor reports, web and social media, while taking the lead on those that need special attention or resources o Elevate and generate content both online and in print that showcases gifts at work, donors and alumni, and leads to measureable outcomes o Through a variety of communication vehicles, create a unique voice for Alumni and Development within SAIT, and test the effectiveness of communication activities Leadership: o Lead, inspire and roll up your sleeves with your immediate team which includes the Editor of LINK, a digital specialist, and a rock star writer o Lead by doing: – writing stories for LINK and online, tweeting and posting on social media, editing and proofing for the department o Effective, clear and timely communication with your immediate team and others – leading by example as a strong communicator and project manager o Give space and insight to your team to be creative and explore new opportunities, including new ways of doing the traditional o Maintain the resources and tools needed to execute and achieve targets, and remove obstacles and barriers that impede plans Collaborator o Support, advise and champion collaboration within the department and across the campus to facilitate and maximize effective content sharing, and appropriately positioned and timed communications o Work alongside the Manager of Alumni Relations and the Manager of Annual Giving to identify and coordinate communications opportunities, strategies, materials, and activities to reach specific audiences and achieve specific targets o Key member of the Alumni and Development centennial working group and the centennial communications working group Qualifications: Minimum of post-secondary education diploma or degree in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing Minimum of 5 years’ of progressively senior experience developing and implementing strategic communications plans, including a minimum of 3 years at a management level leading a team Experience in complex organizations where you work on multiple projects concurrently High-energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels Track record of implementing new initiatives, while fostering the ongoing creativity and enhancements of annual programming Diverse background in various communication mediums – print, web, social media.
