Analysis of Variance Reporting
School Name:
Strategic Aim:
West End Te Kura Ō Mōrere
School Number:
2265
To gain equitable outcomes for all students by improving the achievement levels for Maori so they are able to meet the appropriate National
Standards and participate fully in the New Zealand education system.
Analysis reporting
Annual Aim:
We have a schoolwide aim across all curriculum levels to improve the outcomes for Maori students. A driving force in this is the need to strengthen
whanau engagement with the school and their children’s learning and achievement.
This aim will continue to underpin a great deal of our wider school professional discussion and development.
Target:
To move targeted Maori students to an age appropriate standard in Writing
Baseline Data:
After analysing our 2015 National Standards data we have 26 (35%) of our Maori students below the National Standard and 3 (4%) of our Maori
students Well Below the National Standard in Writing
Students were assessed using Moderation (using the Exemplars) and OTJ’s. e-AsTTle was trialled with a small group
of students as part of the A.L.L. group and staff feel this may give a more accurate measure of achievement in Writing for Yr.3-6 in 2016. It is our
intention to use this this year. Professional Development from staff who have used this in other schools as
well as the two staff who used it in 2015 will be a feature of this being used in 2016

We have been involved in our 3rd
year of the A.L.L. Programme. A
requirement of this was to take it
school-wide into all classrooms
from Year 2-6. This formed our
Teacher Inquiry using a small
group approach with Targeted
students. There was a core
group of A.L.L. monitored
teachers who met regularly to
review programmes, discuss
student progress and in turn, this
was shared in teams. Best
practice was shared by these
teachers through inquiry
discussions.
T.I.O.P. using Shared Poetry
Approach Responsive Writing
again formed an integral part of
our Targeted Writing Programme.
This builds on previous
professional development at
West End with Associate
Professor Mere Berryman. This
year we used our whanau
community in the role of writing
responders. Parent/Responders
were involved in a training
session detailing how to respond
to children’s writing in a positive
way. Students involved in this
have shown a much more
positive attitude towards writing
and increased engagement.
2016 was the first year we have
used e-AsTTle writing as the
primary form of assessment for
Years 2-6. Professional
Development sessions focussed
on the use of the e-AsTTle rubric,
scoring, moderation and
feedback to students.
