Dear Parent / Carer,
It’s back… Heath for Health Community FUN RUN
John Ball presents our 4th annual Heath for Health school and community Fun Run.
The fun run will take place on Blackheath on Sunday 14th May 2017, beginning with a fun
and dynamic dance based warm up from our amazing dance specialist, Laura Joyes, a
5km run for adults and families, followed by a one mile race for children. All registered
runners will receive a medal.
This has always been a real community event and an important fundraiser for the school
and our chosen charities. The benefits of participating extend well beyond the day of the
event. This year the charities are Shine Cancer Support, The Variety Children’s Charity
and The Age Exchange.
The children’s only event is a 1 mile route which children could walk, jog or run. It is a
manageable distance which should encourage children of all abilities to take part.
The 5km event is open for parents, staff, families and adults in the local community.
Children may participate but only with a registered adult who will complete the event
with the child. Again, all abilities are welcome.
Heath for Health was developed with the hope to become a great starting point for
introducing reticent children and adults to exercise. It has become that and so much more!
There are training programmes on our website and virtual training via our FB - Heath for
Health and Twitter @heathforhealth accounts, these will begin on 2nd April so please join
us!
There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd places awarded to participants, who are running the event
competitively and a race clock so that all entrants can work on personal bests or with the
view to improve their time in future events. We also reward children who demonstrate the
School Games Core Values: Passion, Determination, Self-Belief, Team-Work, Respect or
Honesty. The classes who have the most participation are rewarded with a whole class
prize. This has included trips to Adventure Golf, Millwall Football Stadium a Nutrition and
cooking workshop. We have some amazing prizes up our sleeves already!

Last year we introduced the Amanda Crook Award which is presented to the fastest girl &
boy in both races. Their names will join previous winners by being engraved on the award
and this is displayed in John Ball main office foyer.
The charge for entering our event is £10 per adult and children are free of charge with a
pledge to raise £5 through sponsorship. Sponsorship is best donated via our MyDonate
page https://mydonate.bt.com/events/heathforhealth2017/434824
Hamptons Blackheath have paid for and provided ALL of the resources in preparation for
this event for the third year running! This means that every penny raised goes to the
School Sport Fund and our chosen charities!
The Heath for Health event has become a highly anticipated annual event and we really
hope that you will encourage your children, friends, colleagues and family to take part.
There will be more information about the event in due course. Please keep checking the
Social Media pages and JBuzz for more information.
FINALLY, we are always looking for help and support with our event. This year we will
need volunteers to help set up and clear away. Please let us know if you are able to help.
We will always welcome donations of prizes for the winning classes and individuals on the
day and we are still looking for an inspiring race starter. In previous years we have had
Olympic hopeful Charlotte Roach, Sport Relief supporter Sarah Hadland and Paralympian
Silver Medallist Shaun McKeown. Please, if you have any contacts who would be willing to
come along and start our races, then we will be forever grateful!
Yours Sincerely,
Anna Townsend and Angela East
