SEEKING EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST TDi is looking for Expressions of Interest from people who would like to work with us in our South Pacific arm. Over the past 12 months we have been piloting and exploring what investment ready looks like in a developing context. The pilot is designed to establish whether the challenge of bridging the gap from aid to trade can be addressed through the development of investable social enterprises that are able to attract private capital, and thus move away from ongoing grant reliance. Expressions of interest are due by 5pm on Wednesday 2nd March. Who are TDi? At TDi we exist to prove you can do good and make money at the same time, leaving the world better than you found it! We are believers in the idea that many of the world’s social and environmental problems can be addressed through commercially viable business models. We do this by working alongside and enabling others, painting an alternate picture of the world that clearly demonstrates that doing good and making money simultaneously is possible, and we love sharing the stories of enterprises we work with. At TDi we are constantly stepping into the unknown, exploring new places and pushing the boundaries. We purposely create tension through our rigorous method, allowing all avenues to be explored. It is important to us that we are continually stretching the people we work with to bring out the best in them and their organisations. Who are we looking for? Candidates will have a mix of an aid/development background with experience grounded in the realities of commercialisation. You will have the capacity to understand what it takes to build capacity into enterprises to become investable. If you are a person who likes to get things done and see yourself as a practitioner rather than an academic expert, then we might be the organisation for you! While we are looking for the right people in terms of disposition, you do need to have the skillset and experience to deliver, as we are a flexible team that work on multiple projects and have a very high standard of delivery for all the work we do. You will need to be incredibly agile and open to designing and refining on the fly. You will need experience in, or a demonstrated ability to quickly learn how to use the business model canvas that is a foundational tool in all our work. Why work at TDi? We live in a time where we are faced with challenges that must be addressed if we are to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged. Most people are continuing to try and solve these challenges with the same approaches they’ve been using for decades – approaches that clearly don’t work and that are costing time and money that we can’t afford to be wasting. At TDi we see this as an opportunity to do something different, to design new solutions and crack into big messy problems by opening up the social sector’s access to broader capital markets. We are doers who have intentionally stepped into the unknown and are working hard to bridge the gaps that stop progress and change from happening. When working with us there is never a dull moment – there’s no time to get bored, and every opportunity to play a role in creating the change you want to see in the world! If you want to work for an organisation that is agile and has a senior leadership team who are innovative and driven, TDi is the place to be! We are actively engaged in markets stretching from Australia to Egypt. We have presence in Singapore and across the Pacific. Our partners range from major financial institutions like NAB to leading innovation players like The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI), the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and our key partner Benefit Capital. We have a beautifully designed headquarters in Melbourne at the renowned donkey wheel house, that is purpose-built for the innovative work we do. It’s a light, airy, flexible space, with a communal kitchen that can host both Wednesday Team Lunch and the highly competitive table tennis matches that the team likes to engage in! If you’re interested and think you have the experience we are looking for, we would love for you to send us a cover letter expressing why you’d like to work at TDi and how your skills and experience complement our work, as well as a resume to [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you. Expressions of interest are due by 5pm on Wednesday 2nd March. FAQs Q: I love the sound of TDi and think I’m a good fit but am not sure if your current roles suit me. Can I still apply? A: We are always on the lookout for great people with aligned skills and vision. If you’d like to touch base and tell us about yourself and why you’d like to work with us please do. Q: Is the role full-time, part-time, contract or permanent? A: Full-time. Q: When do the roles start? A: Yesterday (an answer you’ll hear a lot at TDi!)… We have work in the Pacific now but are more interested in getting the right people than filling a position with the wrong person just to tick something off the list. Q: How long will the roles last? A: It takes time to really get your head around and master the work we do, and replacing staff is always time consuming and expensive. For this reason we are looking for people who are committed to being in the mix in an ongoing way for the long term. Q: Where are the roles based? A: Our main office is based in Melbourne’s CBD but there will be significant amounts of travel to Pacific nations such as Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu. You need to be prepared to travel at least one week per month. Q: What is the salary? A: We are looking to employ both a program lead at $80k and a program assistant at $60k (inclusive super). In addition you’ll receive a phone allowance and a professional development budget.
