Determination of Home Distance Score (for Local UG Applicants for Hall Application for 2015/16) The home distance score is calculated from the travelling time as given by the Hong Kong eTransport of the Transport Department according to the following parameters : Walking distance: 400m from starting point / destination ; "All" (service mode) and "More" (if any) should be selected ; Search result involving time or day specific or temporary transport services would not be counted ; The shortest travelling time shown in search result would be used ; Maximum 13 minutes of interchange in means of transport will be added for up to 2 interchanges, in the order of 8 and 5 minutes respectively STEP 1 – Using the Hong Kong eTransport The Hong Kong eTransport is available at http://hketransport.gov.hk/. The "Route Search" function will be used for calculating the travelling time from the reported home address to HKUST. Hall Application 2015/16_Determination of Home Distance Score 1 STEP 2 - Selecting the Origin Reported home address in the hall application will be used as the origin in calculating the home distance score. Only buildings and street numbers in the reported address will be used ; in case there is no exact match of buildings or street numbers in Hong Kong eTransport from the reported address, closest result may be considered for determination of Home Distance Score. Input the building name (or street and street number if not applicable) and block number (if any) of the reported home address in "A" and select the correct one among the options in the pull down menu. Confirm the location by checking with the map. Hall Application 2015/16_Determination of Home Distance Score 2 STEP 3 - Selecting the Destination HKUST will be used as the destination in calculating the home distance score. Input the exact wordings "THE HONG KONG UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY" in "B" and confirm the location by checking with the map. "B" shall indicate a point in the middle of the HKUST campus instead of any bus stops nearby. Hall Application 2015/16_Determination of Home Distance Score 3 STEP 4 - Setting System Parameters Click on "more..." and set the parameters. Do this for BOTH "A" (Origin) and "B" (Destination). The following parameters should be set before searching for the travelling time : Service Mode = "Day" Walking Distance = "400m" Hall Application 2015/16_Determination of Home Distance Score 4 STEP 5 - Searching for Available Routes Only click "Search" after you have completed Steps 2 to 4. STEP 6 - Returning Search Results After the search is complete, make sure "All Services" has been selected. Click on "More >>" if some routes are hidden. Hall Application 2015/16_Determination of Home Distance Score 5 STEP 7 - Selecting the Travelling Time The route with the shortest "Est. Time (Min)" will be used as the base travelling time for Composite Score System. If there are any interchanges in the route with the shortest "Est. Time (Min)", an additional of 8 minutes will be added to the total travelling time for the 1st interchange and another 5 minutes for the 2nd interchange. If there are any cases which the Hong Kong eTransport returns a route with more than 2 interchanges, a maximum of 13 minutes for interchanges will be added to the total travelling time. Note : Routes with any transportation indicated "Time or day specific services" and "Temporary arrangement on route service" will be eliminated.
