A CENTRESTAGE Baby!
As many of you will know, Simon
Garrington, teacher at CENTRESTAGE on
Saturdays, Thursdays and at our primary
schools, had his first baby on Wednesday
28th September! Erin Rose Garrington is
absolutely beautiful and both mummy and
baby are doing extremely well. We are
delighted for the new parents!
PCertLam Success!
We are so proud of former student Gunjan
Sain who has just passed her LAMDA
PCertLam with an outstanding Distinction!
Gunjan is the first to pass this incredibly
demanding diploma with us and we are so
pleased for her! Gunjan had been a pupil of
CENTRESTAGE for 10 years before
moving on to King’s College London to study
medicine.

A Note from Gunjan
“Performing has always been such a huge
part of my life and the people at
CENTRESTAGE have helped me to hone
every area of that skill. I am so proud to
have been able to complete this journey
with them and I'll miss seeing them so
much. The skills I have learnt here have
allowed me to succeed during interviews
and clinical practice whilst I work towards
my degree in Medicine. My confidence has
increased along with my ability to perform
and I owe it all to these guys.”

Acting Classes
We have been absolutely delighted
with the actors in all our Thursday
Acting Classes. Their work is really
coming on. Please be aware that
examinations for Grades 4, 5 and 7
will be coming up soon! The
Birmingham Public dates are in midDecember. Please look out for
letters and emails about this.
What Have We Been Doing In
Speech?
In our Speech classes, work has very
successfully started for the
upcoming Trinity Choral Speaking
exams. In these exams, each group
will present a number of pieces,
depending on their age and grade.
These may be poems, extracts from
a book, and acting pieces for the
older years. We have found these
exams to be very popular and a lot of
fun for all the students involved. As
last year, these exams are scheduled
to be in late January. Exact dates,
times, prices and venue of these
exams will be confirmed soon.
All teachers will be asking the pupils
to learn certain pieces over half
term. The students should know
which pieces these are and we are
grateful for your support in this.
NB Please be aware that Junior
Speech children will not be entered
for a Choral Speaking Exam.
A Note from Rebekah
I hope that the new school year has
started well for you all. CENTRESTAGE is
having a busy term as we are once again
running the school play at Bishop Vesey’s,
having received 4th place in Birmingham for our very first play
last year ‘Two’. Pretty good for our first go. We have also
started LAMDA lessons at Bishop Walsh. We seem to have a
special affinity with all schools with ‘Bishop’ in the name! Ella
has taken charge of teaching in the primary schools this year,
and has recitals planned in each of them between now and
January. With all that, no one could ever say CENTRESTAGE
was boring! We hope you and your families have a wonderful
half term holiday! Rebekah
What Have We Been Doing in Drama?
We are continuing to have so much fun in our drama lessons. All
classes have been working hard through creative schemes and
their imaginations are fantastic!
Juniors: Juniors have been enjoying workshops on the theme of
‘space’. They have been travelling to lots of different planets,
meeting aliens, and even rescued an astronaut, John Smith, who
was crashed on Mars!
Intermediate: Intermediates have been working on a fantastic
spooky play! They are hoping to perform this to parents at
11.30am on Saturday 26th November. We hope the group are
excited to show off their hard work and to dress up one last time
in Halloween costumes!
Year 7 and 8: Year 7 and 8 have been working through some
scary schemes of work, ready for Halloween! Their work has
included physical theatre, soundscapes and mime techniques
which are advanced for their age. We have been extremely proud
of what they have produced and impressed by their imaginations!
Year 9 and 10: Year 9and 10 have been creating their own
Murder Mystery! Unlike any other Murder Mystery we have
created before, this one takes place in a theatre company during
their rehearsals of ‘Macbeth’, when lead actress, Crystal is
mysteriously found dead backstage… Exact dates of this
performance will be confirmed soon.
Upstage: Upstage have been exploring lots of different texts
recently, searching for their 2017 production. They have been
workshopping extracts from ‘A Mother’s Voice’, ‘Blood Wedding’,
‘Second Person Narrative’ and ‘Teechers’. Each text has been
extremely different and fun to work with. We hope to have a
final decision soon!
