Course Volunteer Role Profile, Positive Step Role title: Location: Responsible to: Course Volunteer North Somerset, Positive Step service Senior Volunteer Coordinator About Second Step Second Step's aim is to deliver recovery and well-being opportunities for people with mental health and other support needs to achieve their hopes and ambitions. Second Step has ‘Investing in Volunteers’ quality standard accreditation, with an emphasis on volunteer development and progression. About this project Positive Step is a partnership between Second Step and Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust (AWP) and provides a Stepped Care model of support and intervention to people with common mental health problems, e.g. depression and anxiety. The service is designed to improve health outcomes for the local population of North Somerset through an emphasis on promoting self-management, wellbeing and social inclusion. What kind of activities will I be involved in? Ensuring that course participants have relevant course materials and information Supporting Positive Step Wellness Advisors with the course set up and clearing away Assisting the Wellness Adviser in course delivery and evaluation Keeping the Wellness Adviser informed of any individual conversations you have with patients during the course Collecting patient questionnaires and recording information, alerting Wellness Adviser to any patient risk disclosed on questionnaires What skills and experience do I need? A friendly, welcoming personality An interest in psychological therapies such as CBT (no previous experience necessary) A non-judgemental attitude, ability to respect a person’s right to choose how they live Understanding of the importance of boundaries when working with vulnerable people Ability to create a rapport, and build trusting relationships with our patients Good communication skills Ability to manage own time and be punctual and reliable We welcome volunteers with lived experience of the issues facing service users – across homelessness, mental health issues, drug and alcohol problems, offending histories and other life issues, and experience of using services. What commitment does Second Step need from me? A minimum commitment of 6 months to volunteering To commit to a complete course at a time– 4-6 weeks, 3 hours per session (morning or evening) To attend induction and support sessions as required To maintain confidentiality To adhere to Second Steps Health and Safety guidelines To abide by and put into practice Second Step’s Equal Opportunities Policy You must be free from drug / alcohol misuse and living in stable accommodation; and have been so for the past six months Please note: We require all Volunteer to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
