development
This term, we will be promoting the
children’s independence by asking
them to come into school themselves
and carrying out tasks with less
support. We will continue to learn
about different feelings and emotions
and how to handle these during our
PATHs sessions. A class visit will give
children new experiences and learn
appropriate behaviours in different
situations.
The children will be taking part in many
physical activities, both as a class and
during their independent play. In our
PE lessons, we will explore
coordination through dance and multiskill activities. We will also be using
some equipment such as bats,
beanbags and quoits to practise
throwing, catching, balancing and
aiming.
Outdoors, the children will have
opportunities to develop special
awareness and gross motor skills.
Give children small responsibilities around
the home to increase their independence.
Ask them to organise their own belongings
for school.
Talk to your children about how they are
feeling and discuss the different emotions
of other people or characters in stories too.
Talk to your children about what to do if
they or someone else is feeling upset or
angry.

Communication All of our activities will promote
and Language speaking and listening skills and
extend the children’s language through
open ended enquiries, such as ‘how’
and ‘why’ questions. During ‘children’s
voice’ sessions and circle time children
are encouraged to share their own
ideas and opinions.
Children will be taught the correct
vocabulary related to the core story of
farming and farm animals.

point for lots of our reading and writing
activities including exploring the
language used in the stories and
rhyme and alliteration.
Play action games or songs with children
encouraging their coordination and rhythm.
Play throwing, catching or aiming games
outside.
Support children to extend their speaking
skills by asking further questions, for
example ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions.
Model using the correct vocabulary when
discussing animals and objects including
the correct names for male, female and
baby farm animals (Ram, Ewe, Lamb).

Mathematics
We will be learning about non-fiction
writing and writing our own information

about our experiences on our school
visit to Easton College Farm.
Look out for rhymes in books, asking the
children to guess the rhyming word. Make
up silly sentences with your children using
alliteration e.g. ‘Lily lion laughed at the
leopards’.
Encourage children to write about their
interests at home, writing their own stories,
cards or letters, and labelling pictures.
Make a fact book about farm animals.
In maths children will be enhancing
their counting skills and counting
multiples of two, five and ten. We will
revise and extend doubling and
halving. Through our core stories
children will learn about direction and
position and we will look closely at
patterns and symmetry. We continue
to work on children’s number
recognition, writing numbers and
problem solving.
When playing support children to count
their toys in two’s, ten’s and five’s by
grouping them. When eating a snack,
encourage children to double or halve the
food they have. When out and about talk
about the directions you are going using
the correct language and the position of
objects. Use coloured toys to make
