OFFICIAL OPENING
vs
FIRST XV RUGBY
Mount Albert Grammar School
vs
Auckland Grammar School
Saturday, 20 May 2017, 2.30pm
An historic rivalry
on an historic day
Today’s fixture continues a tradition of
rivalry between Mount Albert Grammar
School and Auckland Grammar School
which dates back to the year MAGS was
founded in 1922. The Jubilee Cup is once
again on the line, with MAGS aiming to
retain the trophy after their win in 2016.
Also in keeping with tradition, the Eddie
Wilson Trophy will be presented to the
Player of the Day. Eddie Wilson was a
Deputy Headmaster and Director of
Rugby at MAGS, and also taught at
Auckland Grammar.
It is fitting that this match takes place
on the day the school’s Number 1 Rugby
Ground was officially named the BG
Williams Field after Albertian All Black
Bryan Williams, for whom tradition
has played a key part in his illustrious
rugby career.
