What are the 3 main Legal
Tackles?
Player in possession is held by opposing
players and the ball or ball carrying arm
touches the ground
When a player is on the ground and a
opposing player places a hand on the
grounded player
Succumb to the tackle. This means he
makes it evident to the referee that he is
not going to continue to make progress
and therefore allow himself to be tackled Upright tackle is when a player
is held by opposing players in
such a manner that he can
make no further progress and
cannot off load the ball
A Dominant tackle is when the defender takes
control and drives the ball carrier backwards in
one movement.
It is when someone in possession allows him /
herself to be tackled by diving to the ground or
losing their legs.

It is imperative that this area is
monitored and controlled!

The defender is allowed to work the player
on the ground and the tackler is therefore
allowed more time to compensate for the
player with the ball attempting to gain an
unfair advantage by standing up before the
tackler.

The Tackler is Rewarded for good
technique and allowed to work the
player on the floor.
