Summer Ball Team Management Purpose: Summer ball is a fun extension of play for kids who love baseball. Though it gets competitive due to the caliber of kids coming back, managers and coaches are serving to provide the organizational oversight for good, fun baseball games. We are not fielding teams for the win. Our desire is to give field time equally to all kids and allow this short season to encourage the enjoyment and development for everyone. Rules: Summer ball rules are the same as the spring season. To see the spring rules for each division please visit www.pacificlittleleague.com/documents. Eligible Players: Players on summer ball teams (including fill in players) must be registered summer ball players. In addition to paying for the season, such players will have a concussion document on file and will have signed the necessary medical release forms. No exceptions. Team Management: Management is simplified for the summer season. • Lineup/Rosters: Managers do not need to exchange player rosters. All players must still bat in rotation and rotate fielding positions as in the Minors division. During a game, all play at least one inning in the infield and, one inning in the outfield. No one can sit two innings until all have sat one inning. • Officiating: Pacific Little League will not provide umpires for summer ball games (at any level). At the farm level, coaches will make the calls on the field. At Majors/Minors you can (1) have a parent volunteer to umpire your games, or (2) have an assistant coach take the field to umpire. Balls and strikes will be called from behind the pitcher (no one behind the plate). When questionable calls arise, please gather with the other manager in the field and quietly come to consensus. We are not keeping standings or track for summer ball so, please keep it fun for the kids! • Score Book: Teams will not be keeping score books for summer ball. • Pitching (Majors/Minors): Our goal in summer ball is quality playtime for everyone. We will not be reporting pitch counts after each game, however o League age 12 year old players (from the spring season) are not allowed to pitch in summer ball. o Each player can pitch (2), TWO innings per week. Mix it up! That’s the idea! Field Maintenance: Both teams are responsible for field maintenance (prep/setup and closing down). After the last game of the night, finish securing the field with the opposing manager. *If you are playing an interleague game please represent Pacific Little League well by giving them a specific role to serve in field prep. They likely do not know their way around our equipment lockers. Practice: Though many teams will likely not practice during the summer season, feel free to have your team come early or stay after a game if you want to work on some developmental aspect of the game. As in the spring season, absolutely NO practice swings outside of the field of play and only under coach supervision on the field. Sportsmanship and compliance to above rules: We expect managers to (1) exercise good sportsmanship, (2) manage with the care and development of kids in mind, and (3) to comply with the above rules. Failure to do so will be reported to the VP of baseball. Such instances will affect your invitation to future team management at Pacific Little League. Problems: If any issues arise, please contact [email protected]
