Fit2Drive Year 11 Workshop: curriculum alignment The Fit2Drive (F2D) Year 11 Workshop is a half-day session conducted in school with all students in the year level, with small group activities facilitated by specially trained university students. The workshop experience supports young people to make good decisions when faced with risky driving situations, both as passengers in their interaction with peers and drivers, and in terms of their future driving safety. Pre and post workshop teaching activities have been developed to reinforce and extend the key messages in the F2D workshop. These activities are designed for: VCE English Units 1 and 2 Area of Study 3: Using language to persuade in VCAL Reading and Writing VCAL Personal Development Skills. The workshop also covers aspects of VCAL Oral Communication. The F2D Year 11 Workshop can also be used as a stimulus for work in: VCE Legal Studies Unit 1 VCE Health and Human Development Unit 1: The health and development of Australia’s youth (see also TAC Online Resources) VCE Psychology Unit 2: Self and Other. F2D as a part of a road safety education program Research shows that to be effective, road safety education in schools needs to be ongoing, delivered over time and developmentally appropriate. Schools interested in developing a Years 7 – 12 road safety education program will find the matrices on the following pages a useful starting point. The first shows how quality road safety education resources that are endorsed by the key Victorian road safety agencies link to curriculum (AusVELS, VCE and VCAL). The second matrix shows the road safety issues addressed in each of the road safety education resources. It will assist you to plan the school’s road safety education program from Years 7 to 12 and to choose resources with the messages most relevant to the students.
