1 The Inter fraternity Council of The University of Texas Arlington By Laws Article I. OFFICER DUTIES Section 1 Section 2 Section 3 Section 4 General Duties of All Officers A. Attendance 1. Attend all regular and special meetings of the IFC 2. Attend all executive committee meetings 3. Executive Officers who miss two (2) regular, special, or executive committee meetings without prior notice shall be issued a written reprimand by the IFC President 4. Executive Officers who miss a third regular, special, or executive committee meeting without prior notice will be subject to removal from office. B. Maintain at least one office hour each week, failure to do so will result in removal from IFC executive council. C. Meet individually with the IFC Advisor on a bi-weekly basis. D. Develop a calendar of chapter events, all-Greek events, and major university events at least one semester in advance. E. Formulate goals for the Inter fraternity Council and develop an action plan to achieve those goals. F. Attend FSL retreats, Council Retreats and all Division of Student Affairs trainings/retreats including the annual Leadership Retreat. G. Act in accordance with all University Student Code of Conduct, IFC, FSL, state and local laws, procedures and policies. Failure to comply could result in immediate removal of office. President A. Be responsible for the performance of the duties of the IFC officers B. Preside over all Inter fraternity Council Meetings Prepare an Agenda for all regular and special Inter fraternity Council Meetings. C. Appoint Committee Members D. Attend President’s Roundtable Meetings & FSL President’s Council meetings. E. Exercise all powers and duties granted in the Constitution and Bylaws Vice President of Operations A. Assume duties of President in his absence B. Serve as Parliamentarian in Regular and Special Inter fraternity Council Meetings C. Keep all hearing information confidential without releasing evidence and results of hearings. D. Be knowledgeable of Robert’s Rules of Order E. Coordinate all Standards matters of the Inter fraternity Council F. Serve as Chief Justice on the Standards Council and attend all Standards Board meetings (absence in more than 2 meetings in any given semester will result in removal from office). G. Investigate all charges and allegations of violations and report to the Executive Committee. Vice President Membership & Recruitment A. Coordinate and Execute the Recruitment Plan for each semester B. Collect, edit, and distribute IFC master recruitment schedules for all chapters C. Present IFC Adviser and Executive Committee with a written report at the end of each formal recruitment period D. Act as Chairman of the Recruitment Committee Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 2 Section 5 Section 6 Section 7 E. Coordinate all campus expansion activities F. Responsible for creating a program, in conjunction with the other Greek Councils, for the University Summer Orientations and Maverick Preview Day. Vice President of Communications A. Plan and coordinate publicity for all IFC, FSL, and University events (as needed). B. Serve as an ambassador to other councils by attending and reporting on their meetings C. Responsible for registering IFC for University Events (including Activity Fair, Preview Days, Orientations, Display Cases, Banners, etc.) D. Work to establish positive relationship with on-campus publications such as the Shorthorn and write press releases to get PR for IFC. E. Communicate weekly via email and other electronic media updates in regards to IFC & FSL (chapter president emails and management of IFC social media). Vice President of Programming & New Member Education A. Coordinate & communicate Greek Week activities for IFC B. Coordinate (at least) one IFC New Member Educators meeting per semester. C. Coordinate (at least) one IFC All New Member event annually. D. Communicate and coordinate all IFC new member orientation processes to assure new member eligibility. E. Coordinate various cross-council programming opportunities with CPH, NPHC and MGC. Vice President of Finance & Administration A. Handle all regular financial matters of the Inter fraternity Council in a timely manner including all fees, member dues, and fines. B. Submit a Financial Report once a month at Regular Meetings of the Council C. Collect and disburse all funds for the Inter fraternity Council D. Coordinate travel to annual leadership conference E. Prepare a monthly statement of account for member fraternities F. Call Official Roll at all Regular and Special Inter fraternity Council Meetings G. Record the Minutes of all Inter fraternity Council regular and special meetings and distribute them to member fraternities and representative delegates H. Maintain and Review the Constitution, Bylaws, and Other Policies of the Inter fraternity Council I. Maintain Files and Records of all Member Fraternities such as Rosters, and Officer lists, J. Prepare Agendas for Executive Committee Meetings and General Body meetings. K. Collect all administrative reports that are required by the FSL Advisor to support the mission of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life. L. Maintain a historical record of all council and chapter activities, press reports, etc. Article II. BASIC EXPECTATIONS Section 1 Individuals who assume membership in a social Greek-letter organization do not surrender their rights or escape their fundamental responsibilities as a citizen, but acquire additional rights and responsibilities to the larger Greek Community. As such, members of IFC Fraternities are expected to abide by the NIC Nine Basic Expectations of Fraternity Membership: A. To know and understand the ideals expressed in their ritual and to strive to incorporate those values into their daily life. B. To strive for academic achievement and to practice academic integrity C. To respect the dignity of all individuals by not engaging in behaviors that physically, mentally, psychologically, or sexually abuse or haze others. D. To protect the health and safety of others. E. To respect the chapter property and the property of others by not abusing or tolerating the abuse of property. F. To meet all financial obligations in a timely manner. G. To neither use nor support the use of illegal drugs, and to neither misuse nor support the Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 3 Section 2 Section 1 Section 2 misuse of alcohol H. To acknowledge that a clean and attractive environment is essential to both physical and mental health. Therefore, to do everything, within reason, to ensure that chapter and community property is properly cleaned and maintained. I. To challenge all other fraternity members to abide by these basic fraternal expectations and to confront those who violate them. In addition to these basic expectations, members of fraternal organizations also agree to: A. Not engage in conduct unbecoming a member of the fraternity/sorority community. B. Not engage in disorderly conduct, disrupting activities of others, or rioting. C. Not destroy or vandalize property. D. Not trespass or forcefully enter a premise without authorization. E. Not steal, possess, or encourage others to steal or possess property belonging to other fraternities, sororities, private citizens, the community, or the university. F. Comply with All Greek Standards sanctions. G. Take responsibility for the actions of chapter members, pledges, new members, associates, and guests. Article III. MEETINGS General Body Meetings A. General Body Meetings shall be held every Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. in the Student Congress Chambers. Executive Committee Meetings A. Executive Committee meetings shall be held on a weekly basis at a regular time as scheduled by the Executive Committee to prepare for the subsequent weeks’ General Body Meeting. Article IV. FINANCES Section 1 Dues A. The chapter fee shall be a minimum of $50.00 B. The fee assessed for each chapter member shall be a minimum of $7.00. This fee shall be based on the official roster maintained by the IFC Advisor and should be due before the 30 days after the first day of classes. Late fees will assessed at $25.00 per day until dues are paid in full. Article V. RISK MANAGEMENT Section 1 Alcohol & Drugs A. The possession, use, and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages while on chapter premises, during an official fraternity event, or in any situation sponsored or endorsed by the chapter, must be in compliance with any and all applicable laws of the state, county, city, university, and the Fraternity & Sorority Life Risk Management Event Policy (Appendix B). B. No chapter members, collectively or individually, shall at any time purchase for, sell, serve, and/or provide alcoholic beverages to any person under the legal drinking age. C. No alcoholic beverages may be purchased through the Chapter Treasury nor may the purchase of same for members or guests be undertaken or coordinated by any member, new member, or alumnus in the name of or on behalf of the chapter. D. The purchase and/or use of a bulk quantity of alcoholic beverages (e.g. kegs, party balls, trash-can punch) is prohibited. E. No chapter shall allow a tap system and/or keg to be present in the chapter house, or on chapter property, or at a chapter function (unless the keg or tap system is part of a cash bar operated by an approved licensed caterer at the vendor or leased establishment). F. The number of guests present at a fraternity function may not exceed the legal fire safety code set for that structure or, exceed the number of guests identified by the FSL Risk Management Event Policy and/or the Chapter’s National Risk Management Policy. G. No Chapter shall serve, or permit the use, possession, or consumption of alcoholic beverages Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 4 H. I. J. K. L. Section 2 Section 3 Section 4 Section 5 at Chapter recruitment functions. In addition, in accordance with NIC Standards, any recruitment event must be alcohol and drug free. This includes any events that take place throughout the academic year, including but not limited to designated IFC formal recruitment. No chapter may co-sponsor an event with an alcohol distributor, charitable organization, or tavern (tavern being defined as an establishment deriving more than half of annual gross sales from alcohol) where alcohol is given away, sold, or otherwise distributed to those present. Exceptions to this rule may apply for philanthropic events. Definition of philanthropy is to be left up to the Greek Advisor. All known philanthropies affected by this section will be turned into the Greek Adviser at the beginning of each semester. No chapter may co-sponsor or co-finance a function where alcohol is purchased by any of the host chapters, groups, or organizations. No chapter members shall permit, tolerate, encourage, or participate in "drinking games" at any chapter function. No alcohol shall be present prior to, during or following at any new member activity of the chapter. The illegal use, possession, sale, or distribution of any controlled substance at Chapter functions or on Chapter property shall be strictly prohibited. Hazing A. No chapter shall conduct hazing activities. Hazing activities are considered, but not limited to: "Any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule. Such activities may include but are not limited to the following: use of alcohol, paddling in any form, creation of excessive fatigue; physical and psychological shocks; quest, treasure hunts, scavenger hunts, road trips, or any other such activities carried on outside or inside of the confines of the chapter house; wearing of public apparel which is conspicuous and not normally in good tastes; engaging in public stunts and buffoonery; morally degrading or humiliating games and activities; and any other activities which are not consistent with fraternal law, ritual or policy, or the regulations and policies of the educational institution." B. All new members must attend a hazing education seminar hosted by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. The seminar will be held during formal recruitment (or other IFC Orientation given during the C.O.B. method) and presented by the FSL Advisor Fire, Health & Safety A. All chapters must have posted by common phone, emergency numbers for fire, police, and ambulance, and must have posted evacuation routes from chapter houses posted on the back of the door of each sleeping room. B. All chapters and housing corporations should comply with reasonable engineering recommendations, which are financially feasible to the chapter and Housing Corporation, as reported by the insurance company. Sexual Abuse A. IFC will not tolerate nor condone any form of sexually abusive behavior on the part of its members, whether physical, mental, or emotional. This is to include any actions that are harmful to all genders Education A. At the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester, each chapter shall educate every member and new member pledge in proper risk management practices and review the full contents of this policy at a chapter meeting. In addition, each semester IFC will host an event focusing on risk management in which attendance will be mandatory for a percentage of each chapter, to be determined by the FSL Advisor. Article VI. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS Section 6 Grade Point Average Calculation Procedure Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 5 Section 7 A. The average will be calculated from those men listed on the official Inter fraternity Council Roster that is maintained by the FSL Advisor. The report shall include all initiated members and new members excluding any removed from the chapter roster prior to the census date. Members of the chapter who are not currently enrolled at UTA will also be excluded from the calculation. B. The average of Initiated members, new members, and an overall chapter average will be presented in a report to chapters at the beginning of the following semester. C. The report will be calculated listing the initiated and new member GPA separately for recording purposes and the total GPA of the chapter will be listed as well. This will be the Official Grade Report recognized by the Inter fraternity Council. Organization Scholastic Probation A. Any Member Fraternity not maintaining a chapter GPA of at least 2.65 will be on scholastic probation. B. Member Fraternities not removed from scholastic probation after one (1) semester will lose all social privileges and must submit a scholastic improvement plan to the IFC Executive Committee. C. Member Fraternities on scholastic probation for a third (3) consecutive semester. This Member Fraternity will be brought up on review of the Executive Committee and may be sent to a Standards Committee hearing. D. Member Fraternities that are on scholastic probation for a fourth consecutive semester will automatically be petitioned for removal from the Inter fraternity Council, this petition will require a two-thirds (2/3) of eligible council membership to pass. Article VII. RECRUITMENT POLICIES Section 1 Definition of Recruitment Periods A. Formal Recruitment is the period when Member fraternities formally open their doors for the recruitment of new members. During Formal Recruitment, the contact between Potential New Members and Member fraternities will be organized for the benefit of everyone who participates. B. Member fraternities are expected to hold recruitment events each night during formal recruitment, with the exception of IFC Orientation Day/Evening and Tour of Chapters. No additional events are to be held after these IFC events. C. All Potential New Members must vacate Greek Property, Fraternity member’s property, or designated chapter event location by 11:00pm (the end of the Formal Recruitment day) and begin no earlier than 8:00am during the formal recruitment process. D. The IFC VP Membership and Recruitment will recommend the period of formal recruitment to the IFC, and it must be ratified by a majority vote from the IFC Chapters to be official. E. No females may be present at any recruitment event. F. Continuous Open Bidding Periods are periods when bids may be extended by member fraternities through the office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and either the IFC Vice President of Recruitment, or the FSL Advisor in a more informal manner. The dates for these periods are as follows: G. Summer Phase shall begin on the first Monday following finals week as designated by UTA, and conclude at the end of business on July 31, or the Friday before July 31, if that day should fall upon a weekend. H. Fall Phase shall begin the Monday after the Fall Formal Bid Day and conclude on the last Friday before dead week of the fall semester. I. Spring phase shall begin the Monday after Spring Formal Bid Day and conclude on the last Friday before dead week of the spring semester. J. All phases begin when the FSL office opens for business hours on the first day of each phase and conclude at the end of business hours on the last day of each phase. K. Bid Day will be dry until 5 PM. All chapters will be expected to have a registered event that Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 6 Section 2 Section 3 evening to celebrate their new member class Recruitment Dates A. The Formal recruitment period, the Continuous Open Bidding (C.O.B.) phases and dates of any/all Greek recruitment events will be determined by the IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment & FSL Advisor unless otherwise enumerated in these bylaws. All IFC Recruitment Events A. All member fraternities shall be required to participate in designated FSL Recruitment events to be determined by the Vice President of Membership & Recruitment & FSL Advisor. Any chapter who is absent for more than two (2) of these designated events each fall, spring and summer semester will result in an automatic $100 fine. These events will include, but are not solely limited to: : Section 4 A. Preview Days a. Chapters are required to have tables at University Preview Days. Chapters are encouraged to have prospective members provide their name at the FSL Information Table for distribution to all chapters. Only approved materials may be handed out at this event. B. Activity Fair Day 1. The date of this event is set by the Office of Student Activities & Organizations. Chapters may hand out approved recruitment materials. C. All FSL Open House 1. This event is coordinated by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at the beginning of the fall semester. This event allows prospective new members to attend and be introduced to member fraternity/sororities from IFC, CPH, NPHC, and MGC. Each chapter will be provided a table during this event. D. Information Tables 1. The IFC may periodically set up information tables to distribute information about Fraternity & Sorority Life and to collect names of potential members. 2. The IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment may assign chapters to work at the tables during designated periods. All names collected from the Information Tables will be entered into the database and distributed to all chapters. This is an optional event for all IFC Chapters and not a required event. E. Summer Orientations 1. The IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment shall have the primary responsibility of creating a program, in conjunction with the other Greek Councils, for the University Summer Orientations. The program will involve students from all councils and will be designed to generate interest and to distribute information about Fraternity & Sorority Life at UTA. 2. All names collected during Summer Orientations will be entered into the database and distributed to all chapters. Chapter Recruitment Events A. The IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment will hold a formal recruitment meeting before each formal recruitment period to discuss all aspects of that formal recruitment period including: 1. Dates for all formal recruitment events 2. Rules & Regulations of the Formal Recruitment Period 3. Duties & Rules for Rush Monitors and Recruitment Chairs from each Chapter. B. Each Chapter is required to have all Rush Chairs at the formal recruitment meeting. C. Each chapter must submit a list of formal recruitment activities at the Formal Recruitment meeting date established by the IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment. Failure to submit a list of events by the established date will result in: 1. An automatic $100 fine Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 7 Section 5 Section 6 Section 7 2. Chapter’s formal recruitment events being omitted from published materials D. All events will be finalized after the Formal Recruitment meeting. Events can only be changed if extenuating circumstances arise and must be approved by the IFC Advisor. Chapters canceling or relocating scheduled formal recruitment activities without providing written notification to the IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment at least fortyeight (48) hours prior to the cancellation or relocation shall be subject to a $250 fine. E. Chapters having any unscheduled recruitment activities during Formal Recruitment will be subject to an automatic $500 fine and referral to the IFC Standards Board. F. Formal Recruitment Orientation a. This shall be the kick-off event for the formal recruitment period. General information will be provided to all prospective members. Prospective members will also be required to fill out a Student Data Card and attend the formal information session. The amount of chapter members at this event will be set by the IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment. G. Tour of Houses/ Chapters a. Chapters are required to participate in this event. b. This event is an opportunity to connect with prospective new members that are interested in joining a fraternity at UT Arlington. We encourage chapters to take the limited opportunity to meet as many prospective new members as possible. Please do not use the opportunity to make a presentation; this may be done so at chapter registered events throughout the week if you choose to. Recruitment Alcohol Policy A. All formal and informal recruitment functions will be alcohol free. B. A formal or informal recruitment function is defined as any event which the primary purpose is recruitment. Informative Recruitment Meetings & Review Committee Meetings A. Informative Recruitment Meetings shall be held as necessary and chaired by the IFC Vice President for Membership & Recruitment. B. Each member fraternity is responsible for having one (1) representative, preferably the chapter Recruitment Chair, at each Informative Recruitment Meeting. Any chapter absent from two Formal Informative Recruitment Meetings may not be allowed to participate in the formal recruitment week activities until meeting with the IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment. C. During COB periods of recruitment, a bid will not be allowed to be extended to Potential Members if their chapter representative was absent from the last COB Informative Recruitment Meeting called to order, until meeting with the IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment. D. The IFC Vice President for Membership & Recruitment shall form a Review Committee to review all recruitment bylaws and rules to make recommendations to policy that will ensure this body’s recruitment procedures and policies are fair to both member fraternities and potential new members. At least one (1) Review Committee must be called per academic year to ensure a satisfactory rush and recruitment for all IFC chapters. Recruitment Monitors A. All member fraternities shall submit the names and contact information of three (3) men who will serve as the recruitment monitors during Formal Recruitment. Monitors must meet the following eligibility criteria: 1. Monitors must have been an initiated member for at least one long semester. 2. A long semester is defined as one full Fall or Spring school semester enrolled at UTA. 3. Monitor must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and a semester GPA of not less than 2.5 B. Recruitment monitors will be present at all Formal IFC Recruitment events as assigned by IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment. C. Recruitment monitors shall be knowledgeable of all IFC Recruitment Rules and Policies. Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 8 Section 8 Section 9 D. Recruitment monitors will not be denied access to any areas that are open to prospective members. (e) Member fraternities will incur all costs of the recruitment monitors at their events. E. Recruitment monitors who fail to appear at a scheduled chapter event will be assessed a fine of $50 payable by the chapter. If a chapter fails to report that a Recruitment Monitor has failed to appear at their scheduled chapter event, they will be also be subject to a $50 fine. F. IFC Exec will also act as Recruitment Monitors and are required to perform random inspections of Formal Recruitment Events throughout the Formal Recruitment period to ensure all IFC parties are following all recruitment regulations. G. Recruitment monitors must report any infractions of the IFC Recruitment Rules & Policies in writing to the IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment within twentyfour (24) hours of the known infraction. Definition of Bids A. A bid is an invitation given to a potential new member; either written or electronic to join a fraternity. Extension of Bids A. During Formal Recruitment 1. Bids may only be extended on the two Bid Days (fall and spring) whose dates shall be determined by the IFC Vice President of Membership and Recruitment 2. All prospective members must register online at www.uta.edu/fsl and attend the Formal Orientation (Tour of Chapters) before they are eligible to participate in Formal Recruitment in order to be extended a bid. It is the responsibility of the member fraternity to verify that the potential new member is registered and on the availability recruitment roster before extending a bid. 3. Prospective members who have not registered on www.uta.edu/greek will not be allowed to participate in Formal Bid Day Activities unless otherwise approved by the IFC Advisor. 4. Prospective members who have not attended either the Formal IFC Orientation or Open House will not be allowed to participate in Formal Bid Day Activities unless otherwise approved by the IFC Advisor. 5. During Periods of Continuous Open Bidding a. Bids may be extended to potential new members during the designated phases of COB. b. A Bid will not be official until the following processes are fulfilled: c. The bidding fraternity gives the FSL Advisor a written bid for a potential member during a COB d. The potential member is verified by the FSL Advisor as being eligible to receive a bid. e. The potential member retrieves the bid from FSL and is informed that bids are non- binding until accepted, he registers online at www.uta.edu/greek, and the FSL Advisor informs the potential new member about hazing and other university policies. 6. During Formal Recruitment a. Bids may only be extended on the two Bid Days (fall and spring) whose dates shall be determined by the IFC Vice President of Membership and Recruitment b. All prospective members must register online at www.uta.edu/fsl and attend the Formal Orientation (Tour of Chapters) before they are eligible to go through participate in Formal Recruitment in order to be extended a bid. It is the responsibility of the member fraternity to verify that the potential new member is registered and on the availability recruitment roster before extending a bid. c. Prospective members who have not registered on www.uta.edu/greek will not be allowed to participate in Formal Bid Day Activities unless otherwise Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 9 Section 10 Section 11 approved by the IFC Advisor. 7. Prospective members who have not attended either the Formal IFC Orientation or Open House will not be allowed to participate in Formal Bid Day Activities unless otherwise approved by the IFC Advisor. 8. During Periods of Continuous Open Bidding a. Bids may be extended to potential new members during the designated phases of COB. 9. A Bid will not be official until the following processes are fulfilled: a. The bidding fraternity gives the FSL Advisor a written bid for a potential member during a COB phase. b. The potential member is verified by the FSL Advisor as being eligible to receive a bid. c. The potential member retrieves the bid from FSL and is informed that bids are non-binding until accepted, he registers online at www.uta.edu/greek, and the FSL Advisor informs the potential new member about hazing and other university policies. Advertising & Publications A. All chapter recruitment materials must be approved, in advance, by the IFC Vice President of Membership & Recruitment. B. Chapters may chalk sidewalks, post signs, banners, and flyers in accordance with policies established by the Office of C. Student Activities and Organizations. D. Chapters will not steal, desecrate, or in any other way interfere with recruitment signs of another chapter posted around the campus. Miscellaneous Restrictions *Failure to adhere and abide by any of the following rules and procedures will be considered a violation of these rules and will be subject to punishment by the Executive Committee or the Standards Council. Section 12 A. Member Fraternities cannot state anything negative about another Member Fraternity either in writing, verbally, electronically, nor can it mention another Member Fraternity in its literature in any form or fashion. B. No prospective members are allowed to wear or possess fraternity paraphernalia; i.e., Tshirts, hats, buttons, pins/books, cups. This excludes Recruitment flyers and brochures. Violations A. Anyone witnessing an infraction or violation of these rules is obligated to inform the Inter fraternity Council Executive Committee or IFC Advisor in writing within twenty-four (24) hours of the violation. The Executive Committee reserves the right to pursue any charges based on severity of violation. The following violations shall not be tolerated and will be subject to the following punishments and referral to the Standards Council: B. All inappropriate bid extension practices including, but not limited to telling a potential member a bid is binding, that a decision on a bid must be made immediately or it will be withdrawn, that a potential member is only eligible to receive bids from one fraternity, or who pressures or intimidates a potential member into accepting a bid shall be considered “hotboxing” Furthermore, “hotboxing” may be determined by the Executive Committee or the Standards Council to include other inappropriate bid extension practices. C. Hotboxing shall be strictly forbidden. D. Member Fraternities accused of engaging in “hotboxing” shall be referred to the Standards Council. E. Any Member Fraternity which extends a bid during a shall unauthorized time will be referred to the Standards Council Article VIII. NEW MEMBER PROCESSS & INITIATION Section 1 New Member Eligibility A. To be eligible to join a Fraternity, a man must currently be enrolled as a half time student, Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 10 Section 2 Section 3 Section 1 Section 2 Section 3 which is no less than six (6) hours in the fall and spring semesters and three (3) in the summer semesters, have a College cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5, for current UTA students. All new students to UTA are eligible to participate in IFC recruitment processes, and follow all other requirements expressly written in these bylaws. Initiation practices A. The Inter fraternity Council mandates that all its Member Fraternities will follow the recognized initiation practices of their respective National/International Organizations as long as they are not in violation of any part of these Bylaws and the Inter fraternity Council Constitution. Disaffiliation A. Any man disaffiliating a Member Fraternity is ineligible to pledge another Member Fraternity until he has completed the semester during which he pledged the first Member Fraternity. Article IX. CHAPTER RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES Duty of both Standing Member Chapter and Associate Member Chapter A. Abide by all the Inter fraternity Council, Bylaws, rules, and procedures and as well must abide and accept all University Policies and Procedures. B. Pay all dues and fines owed to the Inter fraternity Council according to its rules and procedures C. Cooperate with all Standards proceedings and follow rulings which may or may not involve its own chapter. Cooperate with all administrative actions of the Executive Committee D. Encourage inter fraternal cooperation, scholarship, and leadership among its individual members. E. Complete the Set of Minimum Requirements, as specified by Fraternity and Sorority Life, each year. Rights and Privileges of Standing Member Chapters A. Vote on all motions brought on the floor of regular and special meetings of the Council. B. Participate in recruitment activities and extend bids to potential members. C. Delegates of member chapters that are eligible are permitted to hold elected or appointed Officer Positions. D. Participate in all Inter fraternity Council programs and activities, which include, but are not limited to: Intramural Sports, Greek Week, Greek Awards, or any University and IFC sponsored programming. E. Receive coverage in all official Inter fraternity Council correspondence and or other materials it distributes. Rights and Privileges of Associate Member Chapters A. Vote on all motions brought on the floor of regular and special meetings of the Council except those motions and petitions mentioned in Article III Section 3 Paragraph B of the Inter fraternity Council Constitution. B. Participate in recruitment activities and extend bids to potential members. C. Participate in all Inter fraternity Council programs and activities, which include, but are not limited to: Intramural Sports, Greek Week, Greek Awards, or any University and IFC sponsored programming. D. Receive coverage in all official Inter fraternity Council correspondence and or other materials it distributes. Article X. AMENDMENTS Section 1 Presentation A . Bylaw amendments by the Inter fraternity Council shall be presented by the IFC VP of Operations in writing to the IFC Executive Officers and IFC Adviser in an IFC Executive meeting. If accepted by the Council and Adviser, The IFC VP of Communications, or other Interfraternity Council Bylaws Amended- 4/2015 11 Section 2 designated officer, shall distribute the amendments, as well as a copy of the standing Bylaws, to each respective Inter fraternal Organization this very same day. The amendments will then be voted on at the preceding official meeting of the Inter fraternity Council. Passing Amendment A. Bylaw amendments will pass with a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the eligible council membership. The amendment will take effect immediately following the passing of the amendment.
